The ideal candidate for the Instructional Assistant II position in the Math Learning Center will:

• Work well with students;
• Work collaboratively with staff and faculty;
• Have knowledge of tutoring techniques;
• Be familiar with working with software and applications for tutoring and tutor tracking;
• Be able to learn and work with various types of instructional software;
• Be able to multi-task and work in an environment with regular interruptions;
• Be flexible and able to adapt to day-to-day changes;
• Be able to speak in front of groups (e.g. provide orientation to students about the services offered in the Tutoring Centers);
• Show attention to detail (e.g. maintain student records and enter data; record and track student hours and assignments);
• Have a California Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) certification - any level(s).

Position Description
Under general supervision, the position implements the District wide tutoring program by training District tutors based on the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) standards and provides other relevant district tutor training. The position conducts training sessions related to different levels of CRLA Certifications for tutors in multiple subjects. The position evaluates tutors to ensure successful completions of each level of training. This position recruits, hires, trains, and supervises tutors and non-classified support.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct training sessions for District tutors to ensure that tutors are trained in successful tutoring practices that reflect CRLA standards; conduct other relevant District tutor training;
• Verify the successful completion of different levels of trainings;
• Ensure that tutors successfully complete trainings and are evaluated to determine if tutors are competent in CRLA standards and are able to achieve certification;
• Update CRLA workshop manuals;
• Tutor students in subjects related to math in transfer and non-transfer level college courses;
• Provide assistance in using various educational and tutoring software and learning platforms;
• Monitor student activity and noise level of the MLC; open and close center rooms;
• Monitor the checking out/in of instructional materials;
• Delegates assignments to unclassified staff;
• Conduct the tutor recruitment and hiring process for the MLC and other locations;
• Develop the work schedules of tutors;
• Review tutor attendance records and payroll submissions;
• Monitor the center budget to ensure the availability of funds to continue to staff the center, order office and tutoring supplies;
• Develop reports related to tutoring functions and activities of the MLC;
• Demonstrate sensitivity to and respect for the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of the College's students, faculty, staff, and community;
• Effectively engage and support historically disproportionately impacted groups by addressing issues of equity and improving culturally responsive service-oriented practices;
• Perform related duties as assigned.

• Apply knowledge of CRLA tutor training standards to conduct trainings, coach tutors, and evaluate the performance of tutors in order to authorize certification;
• Apply knowledge of Mathematical principles (Calculus, Differential Equations and analytical concepts of Geometry) to conduct tutoring activities and assist students with the completion of course work;
• Use academic center management software to track tutoring data;
• Use learning management and tutor training software to make tutor training and resources accessible, relevant, and on demand;
• Use video conferencing software and applications to create online tutoring services;
• Use ERP software to monitor the departmental budget;
• Use general office software and equipment to develop reports, track data, and communicate with District staff and students.
Ability To:
• Ensure that trainings, communications, and tutoring services exhibit sensitivity and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, District staff, and departmental visitors;
• Stay up-to-date with CRLA tutor training standards;
• Effectively coach and mentor tutors;
• Provide leadership and supervision for tutors and other non-classified employees;
• Effectively evaluate students' learning needs to adjust tutoring support;
• Effectively guide students to District support services;
• Promptly report unsafe conditions;
• Effectively monitor tutoring activities and resolve problems for tutors and tutees;
• Communicate effectively, orally and in writing;
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with District staff, students, and departmental visitors.

Minimum Qualifications
Any combination equivalent to a bachelor's degree in Mathematics or related field;
AND
Two years instructional support experience;
AND
Must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices.

Physical Demands
This position requires physical abilities needed to work in a standard office setting, including but not limited to: standing and/or sitting for prolonged periods; occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, and twisting; occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling light and moderate amounts of weight; operating office equipment which may require repeated fine motor skills (e.g.: keyboard use); and the ability to communicate in written and verbal forms. The position requires vision and hearing in normal ranges (with or without correction) sufficient to operate any assigned equipment and the ability to clearly communicate with others in written and verbal forms.
