Job Summary

The Personnel Commission announces an OPEN and PROMOTIONAL recruitment for Accounting Technician. There is currently ONE position open in our Fiscal Services Department. This is an 8 hour/day, 12 month position. Under general guidance, to perform para-professional accounting work involved in maintaining and reviewing financial and statistical records; and to do related work as required. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS A major characteristic of this class is a recognized independent functional responsibility for a relatively complex set of financial records. Position is para-professional in nature in its requirement to, under professional guidance, apply accounting principles in establishing and maintaining journals, ledgers, and records. It differs from a Senior Account Clerk in its emphasis on accounting work, its application of accounting procedures, and its requirement for some knowledge of the field of accounting.

Requirements / Qualifications

Training and Experience: Equivalent to at least one year of college including courses in college accounting; three years of increasingly responsible experience in the maintenance of financial or statistical records, including two years in an account position with a school or city; or any combination of training and experience that could likely provide the desired knowledge and abilities. Knowledge of: General accounting principles and practices, including the preparation of financial statements and reports; invoice auditing. Methods, practices, and terminology used in accounting and financial record keeping. Modern office methods and practices, including filing systems, letter and report writing. Principles of financial administration, including budgeting and reporting. Ability to: Read, understand, and explain technical rules and regulations. Post data and make complex arithmetical computations rapidly and accurately. Compile and maintain accurate and complete records and reports. Perform para-professional accounting work without continuous supervision. Prepare and maintain ledgers and financial reports. Maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Train and guide the work of less experienced personnel. Examine and verify financial documents and reports.
