The Foothill-De Anza Community College District is currently accepting applications for the faculty position of Math Performance Success Program Counselor/Coordinator, De Anza College.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:

Reporting to the Dean of Physical Sciences, Mathematics, and Engineering (PSME), the Math Performance Success Program Counselor/Coordinator will provide leadership and program expertise in the implementation of the goals and objectives of the math success programs, including Math Performance Success (MPS) and STEM related Programs. These programs provide intensive student support services for underprepared students in mathematics. The candidates will provide counseling and advising services for students, will collaborate with the Director of the MESA STEM Program, the Dean of PSME, math faculty, other counselors, and MESA/PSME staff for the success of the students and programs. Candidates will support and mentor embedded tutors, will implement in and out of class counseling and advising services, will work closely with faculty to monitor student progress, and will assist with collecting data and reporting on the success of the programs. Candidates will outreach, recruit students, review applications, and select students to participate in the program.

This position is not a mathematics position but does require experience supporting students in mathematics and related STEM disciplines.

Standard duties expected of all faculty include development and evaluation of curricula, maintaining schedule office hours, attending program and division meetings, pursuing professional growth activities, and performing other duties consistent with the role of an instructor. Instructors also have the opportunity to serve on district and college committees and participate in campus extra-curricular activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.
• Master's degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling OR the equivalent OR a Bachelor's degree in one of the above listed degrees AND a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.
• Demonstrated knowledge and skills in providing counseling and career services to multi-ethnic and underrepresented students.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in providing counseling (academic/personal/career) to college-level students, specifically underprepared students.
• Ability to provide culturally relevant strategies for college success and/or career courses to underprepared students.
• Demonstrated experience in serving students with difficulties in STEM courses.
• Demonstrated experience in working closely and collaboratively with a team.
• Experience with counseling related technology and educational planning software.
• Experience coordinating student success programs.
• Demonstrated strong communication, written, and interpersonal skills.

• Identifying students experiencing academic difficulties in mathematics but have potential for success.
• Recruit students via email, tabling, and presenting at events and conferences. Review applications, screen applicants, and provide support in program registration.
• Establishing an instructor/counselor/tutor/mentor cross-disciplinary team to recruit and prepare students to finish math requirements.
• Using counseling and advising to move students towards their desired goals (ie. transfer or employment or job development).
• Supporting student tutors in the classroom.
• Establishing an effective rapport with students inside and outside of the classroom.
• Developing an academic education plan for each student in the math and STEM related programs.
• Providing evidence on program success by collecting retention and success data to report to state agencies and campus and District administrators.
• Closely monitoring student progress through using high touch practices as well as weekly meetings with faculty and staff.
• Providing academic counseling and advising to enable students to succeed.
• Closely work with MESA staff inside and outside of the MESA center to ensure students are provided with the resources needed to succeed.
• Establish and maintain relationships with other student service groups in program recruitment.
• Attend and participate in program meetings, division meetings, special program events, and training sessions and participate in on-going professional development training.
