Substitute Job Description Substitutes at Ceiba implement lessons to students in grades 6 through 12 provided by the classroom teacher. As a support staff member, substitutes absorb many different roles and responsibilities. PRIMARY SUB RESPONSIBILITIES Implement and teach lesson plans and instructions as directed by the absent teacher, consult with Human Resources if a lesson plan is not provided Supervise students outside the classroom, including in the hallways and cafeteria Comply with all school regulations and policies at all times Take attendance in Synergy Document incidents in Educator’s Handbook Ensure classrooms and student assignments are kept clean and orderly Email the teacher with an overview of how the class and day with the students Ensure safety of students at all times Provide individualized instruction and small group support in class and during Fast 40 periods to ensure all students are advancing at an appropriate level Employ strong classroom management skills that create and maintain a positive classroom culture Correct and provide objective, actionable and encouraging feedback to students Collaborate closely with team members to share best practices, improve instructional strategies and align and integrate curriculum across departments and grade levels Lead/participate in homeroom, homeroom activities, gatherings, and intervention/enrichment activities Build and foster strong, collaborative relationships with parents and families Promote Ceiba core values of Creativity, Effort, Integrity, Benevolence and Assertiveness OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES Effectively use Ceiba programs and systems including Educator’s Handbook, Synergy, Hapara, Schoology, instructional materials for designated content areas Assist teachers with the implementation of student’s modification and accommodations Support students with emotional or behavior concerns and assist them in developing appropriate skills through the programs Ripple Effects, W

OVERVIEW

Ceiba College Prep is a charter school devoted to preparing every student to succeed in college. Ceiba Middle School currently serves 265 students in grades 6-8 and Ceiba High School serves 135 students in grades 9-10.

We are seeking a small pool of key substitutes. This position is an excellent opportunity for teachers who are motivated to work in a rigorous and supportive learning community, while getting to know one school community well.

DUTIES

  • Arrive at school 7:15AM and stay until 4PM
  • Review all lesson plan materials prior to arrival on site for duties
  • Teach core classes in content area
  • Manage student behavior in a manner aligned with Ceiba's culture of strict but firm discipline
  • Maintain up-to-date contact info with school administration as needed throughout the year
  • Connect with young people and work to create a positive, structured learning environment that ensures all students are engaged
  • Show an unwavering commitment to improving the minds and lives of students
  • Provide short summary of the day for the absent teacher to review upon return

QUALIFICATIONS

  • An absolute belief that all students will learn
  • Two years of teaching experience preferred
  • Strong classroom management skills and ability to work with heterogeneous groups of students
  • Willingness to reflect, improve, and work within a team
  • Bachelor degree is required; Graduate degree preferred
  • CBEST or CSET equivalent required; valid California teaching credential preferred

COMPENSATION 

$115 per instructional day.
