LOS GATOS-SARATOGA JOINT UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT POSITION DESCRIPTION Class Title: Accounting Technician II Basic Function: Under general supervision, to perform complex and responsible work in the keeping of financial or statistical records; to perform all related duties as assigned. Examples of Duties: Independently maintains a complete set of financial records, such as budget ledgers, student body accounts, payroll records and food service accounts. Receives financial documents, screens for accuracy and adherence to legal and procedural requirements and carries out procedural steps to insure or authorize payment or delivery. Posts expenditures and enters them into the data processing system. Researches, gathers, assembles and analyzes information in preparation for numerous local, state and federal reports. Makes computation of financial data, applying standard formulas and uses predetermined guides. Prepares and summarizes financial reports independently. Makes up trial balances and recapitulations from records maintained. Contacts other agencies, districts, schools and district employees to discuss financial records and transactions. Gives authoritative information on records maintained. Assists in district purchasing activities. Processes applications for enrollment of new and eligible employees in medical insurance plans. Audits insurance invoices and ledgers and processes for payment. Conducts routine correspondence independently. Operates a variety of office machines, including bookkeeping machine and computer. Attends conferences and keeps informed of new developments in state and federal laws pertaining to records maintained. May supervise the work of student workers or other clerical staff. Reconciles bank statements. Performs all related duties as assigned. Accounting Technician II Page 2 Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of: Methods and practices of financial record keeping. Modern office practices and procedures. Bookkeeping methods and terminology. Ability to: Perform difficult accounting work without continuous supervision. Post data and make arithmetical computations rapidly and accurately. Proficiently operate office appliances such as adding and calculating machines. Compile and prepare complex financial reports. Understand, carry out and give oral and written instructions. Type at a net corrected speed of 40 words per minute from clear copy containing a large percentage of numerical or tabular data. Maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Education and Experience: Three years of increasingly responsible experience in the maintenance of financial or statistical records, preferably including some experience in the specific area of assignment; or any combination of training and/or experience that could likely provide the desired knowledge and abilities.
