Job Summary:
Under direction, performs a wide variety of semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of facilities and equipment; assists trades personnel in the performance of a wide variety of duties in areas such as painting, plumbing, carpentry, electrical and locksmithing.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assists in the repair of systems requiring the skills of maintenance trades (i.e. electrical, carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, security systems, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining facilities in safe, comfortable and operating condition.
- Assists in the maintenance of facilities, systems and their component machinery requiring maintenance trades (i.e. electrical, carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, security systems, etc.) for the purpose of identifying potential repairs and providing an ongoing program of preventive maintenance.
- Assists in the installation of machinery and equipment requiring skilled maintenance trades (i.e. electrical, carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, security systems, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining facilities in a safe, comfortable and operating condition.
- Coordinates with other staff for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently
- Procures equipment, supplies and materials for the purpose of maintaining availability of required items and completing jobs efficiently.
- Responds to emergency situations (e.g. facility damage, damaged equipment, roof leaks, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
- Transports various items (e.g. equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of providing materials at job site as required to complete tasks.
Other Job Functions:
- Assists and coordinates with district and other trades' staff for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently and providing support in the completion of work activities.
- Prepares documentation for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
Essential Job Requirements - Qualifications:
- Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required: Skill to operate hand and power tools used in craft; read and interpret plans, blueprints, and/or schematics perform basic math to make calculations. Knowledge of appropriate health and building codes, methods, materials and equipment used in craft, safety practices and systems components. Ability to perform a variety of skilled tasks, understand and carry out oral and written instructions, establish priorities, work independently with minimal supervision.
- Physical Requirements: The Office of Classified Personnel Services embraces the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The requirements of the position are maintained in the Personnel Department; and, individuals shall be able to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Training Required: Three (3) years general building maintenance work experience.
- Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:
- Fingerprint/criminal justice clearance.
- Valid California driver's license.
- Tuberculosis clearance.
- Written examination.
