
SHORT TERM Reprographics Service Technician at East Whittier City School District

Under direction of the Director of Information Services and Technology or designated supervisor, the Reprographics Service Technician will plan, organize, lead and participate in the functions and activities of the reproduction service unit; perform skilled technical layout, setup and production tasks, utilizing printing presses and related material reproduction equipment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.• Plan, organize and coordinate the functions of the material reproduction unit, including service priority determination and the scheduling of production tasks.• Review duplication requests and advise users regarding material layout, design, paper and ink qualities, and production timelines.• Review, analyze and evaluate material duplication requests to determine the feasibility of inhouse production.• Perform liaison services to printing vendors regarding material, design, layout and the determination of ink, paper and other factors concerning the production process.• Assist in the resolution of unusual and unforeseen problems.• Perform skilled technical printing production related tasks, including layout.• Review the reproduction unit inventory of supplies and materials, and request and reorder stock as necessary to maintain an appropriate operational inventory.• Estimate material and labor costs for each project and perform cost analyses to ensure an effective and efficient operational mode.• Plan, develop and maintain data information, storage and retrieval systems, including a variety of production files and records.• Assist in the budget planning and expenditure control process, including the calculation of project costs and the follow through with charge back processes.• Operate offset presses and a variety of other peripheral printing machines and equipment.Reprographics Service Technician2023 - 2024 school year, assignment ending 6/30/2024 – Employee will retain bumping rightsReprographics Service TechnicianPage 2 of 3• Related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:• Current methods, practices, and techniques of printing production and graphic arts processes and procedures.• Modem duplication materials, supplies and equipment, including a variety of peripheral printing equipment.• Printing format, design, layout, and preparing of camera ready material for print production functions.• Ink and paper properties, characteristics and specific uses.• English usage, grammar, punctuation and arithmetical calculations.• Safe working methods and procedures.• Modern information technology terms, practices and procedures.• Basics of Mac OS X, Windows 7 and 10, Chrome OS, and iOS operating systems.• Basics of Microsoft Office 2010-2016 and related email application (Mac and PC editions).• Basics of Google G-Suite.• Effective oral and written communication skills.
Ability to:• Effectively and efficiently plan, organize, and coordinate the operation of a material duplication unit.• Use new equipment and technology as it becomes required to perform this job.• Perform skilled and technical printing production functions.• Establish and maintain a complex data and information management, storage and retrieval system, and prepare complete and concise operational reports.• Accurately estimate labor and material costs and accurately project production scheduling,• Effectively organize, and lead reproduction personnel.• Understand and carry out oral and written directions with minimal accountability controls.• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.• Effectively problem solve issues as they arise.• Work successfully in a culturally and linguistically diverse environment.• Effectively, technically and tactfully communicate in both oral and written forms.• Manage and use time effectively.• Demonstrate interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
Experience:• Three years of experience in production printing, including graphic arts, layout, and setup functions, including one year in a lead or supervisory capacity.• Any combination of training and/or experience that could likely provide the desired skills, knowledge, abilities and traits may be considered.
Education:• Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade
Requirement:• Valid California driver’s license• Insurability by the District's liability employment insurance car
