MAJOR FUNCTION
Under the supervision of the school Principal, the 9-12 athletic coach is responsible for the training, instruction, supervision, and guidance for students on the assigned school teams.
MAJOR TASKS
- Instructs students in the basics, skills, strategies, and rules of the assigned sport.
- Instructs students in the elements of good sportsmanship and requires student participation within the scope of good sportsmanship.
- Provides student supervision and safety during all practices, athletic contests, and trips.
- Maintains the inventory and care of school equipment provided for the assigned sport.
- Communicates with the Athletic Director in the scheduling of contests, facilities, and officials.
- Provides for the enforcement of school and district rules at practice sessions and athletic contests including the Athletic Handbook.
- Provides as required evidence of minimum student contact hours have been met.
- Performs other tasks as assigned within the scope of an athletic coach.
- Classification for each sport is determined by responsibility factor and minimum student contact hours:
VARSITY HEAD COACH: Class 5 - Minimum Student Contact Hours Outside Class: 300; Class 4 - Minimum Student Contact Hours Outside Class: 200.
Responsible for the design of the overall athletic team strategy and coaching for all 9-12 teams of the same sport.
Responsible for the instruction by the assistant coaches.
JUNIOR VARSITY HEAD COACH: Class 4 - Minimum Student Contact Hours Outside Class: 200.
In consultation with the Varsity Head Coach, is responsible for the strategy and coaching used by the team.
ASSISTANT COACH OR FRESHMAN COACH: Class 4 - Minimum Student Contact Hours Outside Class: 200.
Works under the leadership of the Varsity Head Coach to implement team strategies and skills.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be a certificated employee of the Hilmar Unified School District unless specifically approved by the Board of Trustees.
- Must meet the training and education requirements to be certificated as an athletic coach.
- Must be the type of individual who is able to serve as a positive role model for student athletes.
- Must demonstrate satisfactory knowledge of the sport for which he/she is assigned to coach.

Current First Aid/CPR Card Current TB 10 Year Driving Record (DMV H-6 Form) Coach Certification
