JOB DESCRIPTION

FOOD SERVICES DELIVERY DRIVER

 

Position:          Food Services Delivery Driver

Reports to:      Supervisor of Food Services              

Salary:             Range 34

 

DEFINITION

Under general supervision, to load, deliver and unload prepared foods and food containers to various schools according to prearranged schedule, set-up, prepare, serve food items and clean up kitchen; may be required to pick-up and deliver other warehouse Food Services items, and to do other related work that may be assigned.

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Drive a delivery vehicle for the purpose of delivering prepared foods from production kitchen to various schools/sites following a predetermined schedule; load and unload containers, hot carts and utensils and make proper distribution; assist in maintaining warehouse food, paper goods and frozen food storage areas; shelve, store and rotate supplies. Assist with cleaning of warehouse, freezer, refrigerators and trucks.  Maintenance of the delivery trucks in regards to checking the oil, etc. Assist with inventories. In addition to delivery of prepared foods, may set-up a kitchen, serve food to students and cleanup; may count and record daily lunch tallies.  May pick-up mail and money deposit for each kitchen site and deliver to the Nutrition Services office.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

 

Knowledge of:

  • Safe driving practices; operation of light and/or medium delivery trucks appropriate methods for lifting and loading supplies and equipment
  • Proper operation of hand trucks and dollies
  • Basic methods of serving foods in large quantities
  • Standard food service appliances and equipment
  • Arithmetical calculation processes and simple record keeping procedures
  • Basic computer operations and functions
  • Sanitation and safety practices and procedures.

 

Ability To:

  • Maintain tight work schedule(s) without close supervision
  • Ability to learn and follow all State and Federal Child Nutrition guidelines
  • Drive and operate a light/ or medium delivery truck safely and in conformance with State laws
  • Keep simple records
  • Operate a variety of food service equipment
  • Collect money and make change accurately
  • Work quickly and efficiently
  • Operate a computer terminal in order to input and retrieve data
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions
  • Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with those contacted in the course of work.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Individuals possessing the knowledge and abilities listed above are considered to possess the necessary education and experience.  Equivalent to graduation from High School 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

Strength; 

Heavy work – lifting and/or carrying of objects up to 100 pounds with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.  Physical dexterity in limbs and digits to operate a motor vehicle.  Ability to bend, stoop, grasp and reach. Work in area of extreme temperature change, i.e. freezer.

Working Conditions:

Regular driving under all types of weather conditions.  Job requires understanding of proper methods for lifting and carrying heavy objects and loading and unloading food carts.

 

 

 

REQUIRED LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES

  • Possession of a valid and appropriate California Driver’s License; have an acceptable driving record and qualify for insurability by the District’s insurance carrier.
  • A current (valid) Riverside County Food Service Permit.

MUST PASS THE DISTRICT WRITTEN EXAM. Applicants that pass the initial screening will be notified of the examination date. The written exam will cover English language usage, school and student safety, first aid, student interaction, and human relations. This position is part of the California School Employees Association (CSEA) bargaining unit. After a conditional offer of employment, applicants must meet the following requirements: 1. Must pass District physical examinations and drug/alcohol screening 2. A current TB clearance 3.
