Sonoma Country Day School is a transitional kindergarten through eighth grade independent, coed day school located in California's wine country. The Learning Support Associate Teacher (LSAT) will add to our dynamic team of two experienced Learning Support Coordinators and collaborate closely with faculty and families to empower students to recognize their strengths as learners. In this role, you will guide students in cultivating self-awareness and self-advocacy while imparting valuable skills and strategies. As an integral member of our faculty, the LSAT will work in tandem with classroom teachers to enhance overall student achievement within the classroom environment. Major Responsibilities for the Learning Support Associate Teacher position: The LSAT works one-on-one and in small groups with students both during the school day and after school. During learning support sessions, the LSAT will help students develop their own toolbox of learning strategies. The Learning Support Teacher (LST) collaborates with faculty, students, and families to help students access their strengths as learners. The LST works with students to develop self-awareness and self-advocacy, in addition to building skills and strategies. The LST is a member of the faculty who partners with classroom teachers to increase student success in the classroom.

Requirements / Qualifications

Required qualifications: Applicants should have a bachelor's degree with significant mathematics, writing, and reading coursework and are either pursuing or holding an Education Specialist credential. An advanced degree in education is highly preferable, as is experience working with high-readiness students as well as those with learning differences. The individual should have experience supporting students with any of the following: a specific learning disability, ADHD, anxiety, autism spectrum disorder, social communication disorder, executive functioning deficit, etc. Applicants should have a high comfort level and facility with technology as it pertains to supporting students with learning challenges in the general education classroom. Strong interpersonal skills, a growth mindset, and flexibility are essential. The LST position is a salaried position.
