MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Communicate purpose of the assigned program to prospective enrollees and their families. Greet, inform and direct visitors, staff and students, in person or over the telephone with courtesy and diplomacy; ascertain nature of business and provide information. Perform responsible clerical duties including, but not limited to typing, copying, manipulating and maintaining computer data base information systems, maintaining filing systems, record keeping, records and composing routine correspondence. Assist program staff with appropriate referrals to program, in-school services and community agencies. Work with program staff to increase the effectiveness of the early identification and intervention policies. Serve as a resource and support person to the staff and as an advocate for students and parents. Assist with presentations to parents, staff and students at various meetings. Assist with and participate in community education and parent involvement activities. Attend training and workshops as required during regular work hours. Assist in preparation of scheduled reports and statistical data as required by the program. Act as an interpreter to limited/non-English speaking parents. Translate in both oral and written form. Work as a team member. Perform other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of: Strong English and Spanish verbal and written communication skills including spelling, grammar and punctuation; modern office methods and practices; computer software programs in word processing and data management; proper phone etiquette and record keeping; knowledge of community’s strengths and challenges; knowledge of the concepts of culture and sensitivity to cultural diversity and other social identities such as social class; public and private community service agencies. Experience: Working with public and private community service agencies; varied clerical experience; customer service. Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to: Communicate in English and Spanish effectively in oral and written form and to understand and follow oral and written instructions in an independent manner; multi- task; be organized; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; analyze situations accurately and adapt an appropriate, effective course of action; be flexible with a positive attitude and possess excellent interpersonal skills; learn and understand laws and regulations applicable to the program; and operate a variety of office machines and type at a level to complete required tasks accurately and efficiently. Licenses: Valid California Drivers License and evidence of insurability.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Experience working in a community with demographics similar to Salinas. Experience working with community service agencies.
PHYSICAL EFFORT/WORK ENVIRONMENT: Good physical condition; Sit for long period of time or work in confined spaces; Perceive the nature of sound; Must have visual acuity for the purposes of reading computer screens, manuals, labels and other printed matter. New employees must pass District physical examination which includes drug and alcohol screening.
