Join an exciting team with the San Luis Coastal Unified School District, in the Buildings, Grounds & Transportation Department. As a Mechanic, you will perform minor and major mechanical repairs and maintenance on diesel, natural gas, and gasoline-powered vehicles and light and heavy equipment; will independently perform routine mechanical repair and maintenance work; will serve as a substitute school bus driver as required; and will perform related duties as assigned. The candidate selected for the Mechanic position must possess, or have the ability to obtain during the probationary period, a California commercial driver license and a School Bus Driver Certificate. The candidate selected will also be required to participate in District-provided training for Forklift Operator Certification. Additionally, employees receive a step increase after passing probation, and and an annual step increase each year after that.

SLCUSD has an 18 step salary schedule for positions under the Service Employees International Union. Upon successful passage of probation, employees receive a step increase. Regular employees receive annual step increases.
This recruitment will be used to establish an eligibility list for the mechanic classification with the San Luis Coastal Unified School District, and to fill a current vacancy. The current vacancy is for a full-time position, Monday through Friday.
Fingerprint, TB, and a pre-employment physical clearance will be required before hire.
Applications will be reviewed and applicants that pass the minimum requirements will be contacted to participate in the examination, date TBD. Candidates who pass the exam will be invited to proceed to an oral board interview. The top three ranked candidates after the exam and oral boards will be invited to a hiring interview.
SPECIAL NOTES: 1) Correctly filling out forms and following other instructions contained in this notice are part of the testing process. 2) Applicants with disabilities need to notify the Human Resources Office of any special needs so that adequate preparation may be made for their testing. 3) Veterans qualifying for the oral board examination may receive 5 additional points added to their final score if proof of discharge is submitted at time of oral board interview. A "veteran" as used here means any person who served in the United States armed forces or National Guard in time of war, or national emergency. 4) Eligibility lists are established for a period of six months from the qualifying interviews.
