DEFINITION

Under direction of the maintenance department performs skilled mechanical work in repair, inspection, servicing and alteration of district heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems and related equipment and facilities.  Assist and perform other maintenance duties as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Service, maintain and repair HVAC equipment including heating, ventilation, compressed air, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment such as forced air converter units, pumps and chillers; replace and clean air filters; locate and acquire parts necessary for repair and maintenance; perform electrical, pneumatic and mechanical testing of equipment; diagnose mechanical and electrical problems; repair or replace defective parts in units and equipment and controls; rebuild pressure and temperature safety valves and water pumps as necessary; operate a variety of tools and power equipment including electrical, air, water, freon and natural gas testing equipment; perform preventative maintenance for heating and air conditioning equipment; assist in performing other skilled maintenance duties as assigned; repair, maintain, install and alter heating or cooling, piping and gas lines to heating and cooling equipment; perform other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

Smoldering and brazing techniques; manual and electrical tools and equipment applicable to HVAC trade; use of test equipment; health and safety techniques; technical aspects of field of specialty.

Ability to:

Use a variety of tools and machines; work from blueprints, shop drawing and sketches; plan and organize work; analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action; operate a truck or van observing legal and defensive drive practices; lift objects weighing up to 75 pounds; perform other skilled maintenance duties as assigned.

Experience & Education:

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, and any combination equivalent to four years of training or experience which demonstrates journey - level skill in the assigned trade.

License Requirement:

Possession of valid California Driver's License.

Condition of Employment:

Insurability by the district liability insurance carrier.
