Job Summary
Job Summary
The Special Education Instructional Assistant is responsible to provide academic, and/or community-based instruction to students with disabilities according to the prescribed directions of the Education Specialist; monitor and record student progress regarding academic and behavior performance; and perform record-keeping and clerical assistant duties to support the Educational Specialist. The candidate in this position will work online and/or in-person with students up to 24 hours per week. In-person student support will be provided as needed during the student's initial 30-60 days of enrollment. Candidates must be able to drive to meet with students in-person within Orange and Los Angeles counties. When in-person services are not needed, the candidate will work with students virtually through the school's online platforms.
Requirements / Qualifications
Two (2) years of experience working with students with disabilities in an academic or non-public school setting. Possession of a secondary school diploma or its recognized equivalent and one of the following: 1) completion of at least two years of study (minimum 48 semester hours) at an institution of higher education; 2) possession of an associate’s (or higher) degree; or 3) passing a rigorous assessment that demonstrates the knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing, and mathematics at a level meeting State and Federal requirements. A bachelor’s degree in an educational or related field is highly desirable. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
In addition to the required documents, background checks are conducted on all prospective new hires. State and federal fingerprint clearance (LiveScan) to work with students (Ed. Code 44237). No prospective employee can report to work without this clearance being received and the Human Resources notifying the immediate supervisor of this clearance. Proof of a clear TB test dated within the last 60 days (Ed. Code 49406) must be provided upon employment and thereafter updated every four years.
