ABOUT THE JOB: Under general supervision, performs a variety of complex technical work in the installation, maintenance, operation, and repair of the district's information technology and related equipment; assists in the operating functions of the Information Technology Department, which may include a focus on data center systems, network equipment, software, telecommunications, computers and/or peripheral devices; and performs related duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES: Under general supervision, installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs equipment including data center systems, software, telecommunications equipment, network equipment, computers, and peripherals devices; monitors, troubleshoots, and diagnoses LAN/WAN problems and prevents potential network issues;  provides technical assistance to end users in person and over the telephone; installs network and telecommunication systems; troubleshoots infrastructure systems and cabling; administers user accounts including user profiles and user/group access, and ensures secure access and network security; analyzes, researches, interviews, and evaluates vendor hardware and software products to meet the requirements and compatibility with the district operations; performs repairs to servers, computers, network equipment and software adjustments for the purpose of maintaining computer and network equipment in a secure and operational condition;  maintains systems to optimal capacity;  works with supervisor to establish priorities and schedule repair work; works with vendors on hardware and software updates; coordinates with users, department staff, and other support service departments to detect problems and determine the appropriate courses of action, with the approval of the IT supervisor;  prepares written materials such as reports, inventory lists, and warranty documents for the purpose of tracking activities, providing written references, training, and/or conveying information;  assists in setting up lab environments; and works on special projects as needed.

Education and Experience: High school graduation or equivalent, and three years of recent, increasingly responsible experience equivalent to full-time work in information technology, including or supplemented by network and server administration related courses in information technology are required. Successful completion of a related formal training program is desirable. Bachelor’s degree in information technology may be substituted for one year of the required experience. Part-time experience will be considered and adjusted appropriately.  Any other combination of training and experience which would likely provide the required skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.

LICENSE:  Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver License and remain insurable at the standard insurance market rate. Candidates must submit a recent (within the last 30 days) original DMV driving record by the oral rating exam.

A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE REQUIRES THE FOLLOWING….

Knowledge of: Computers, hardware, software, servers, and networks; concepts, principles, and practices of networking technology; proper and effective equipment utilization; and troubleshooting procedures and techniques.

Ability to: Communicate effectively and clearly to instruct users on proper usage of information technology; rapidly learn and acquire skill in areas and technologies not previously assigned;  analyze problem areas in person and over the telephone; make adjustments to equipment; keep accurate records, prepare reports, make recommendations, and implement corrective actions; meet critical deadlines; speak and write effectively and clearly; and establish and maintain cooperative relationships with department staff, user groups, vendors, and school personnel.
