Purpose                            

The job of Project Coordinator – Tobacco Use Prevention Education (TUPE) Program is done for the purpose/s of coordinating planning, organizing and implementing program related projects at TUPE funded school sites; providing information to others; and maintaining services within established guidelines and standards.

This job reports to the Assigned Administrator/Supervisor. 

Essential Functions

  • Coordinates with program staff and/or a variety of committees, etc. for the purpose of serving as a liaison and resource, identifying training needs and/or coordinating professional development services.
  • Lead and participate in a variety of activities involved in the implementation of tobacco-use prevention education (TUPE) intervention and cessation activities.
  • Designs develops, and organizes services (e.g. strategies, schedules, systems, goals, and objectives, etc.) for the purpose of implementing student services and professional development activities related to identified program needs/requirements.
  • Engage and provide technical assistance, support and training to TUPE site coordinators, other school personnel, parents and community members regarding intervention and cessation activities; such as Brief Intervention for Substance Using Adolescents.
  • Lead coordination, development, and implementation of all TUPE youth development activities and assist assigned administrator in assuring program activities comply with established project goals, objectives, strategies, and services.
  • Participates in meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and improve program practice.
  • Plans, implements and manages multiple projects and events simultaneously (e.g. Student Services, Youth Engagement, Staff Professional Development, Stakeholder Engagement, etc.) for the purpose of coordinating a variety of program components and activities while ensuring program objectives are met.
  • Serve as a liaison between the County Office, school districts, students and outside agencies regarding youth development strategies; respond to inquiries and provide information concerning related activities, policies, procedures and objectives.
  • Compile and analyze a variety of data related to TUPE Youth Development activities; prepare and maintain a variety of narrative and statistical records, reports and files related to assigned activities.
  • Processes documents and materials for TUPE events and activities for the purpose of disseminating information to appropriate parties.
  • Communicate with County Office personnel, students and various outside agencies to exchange information and coordinate activities.
  • Researches a variety of information (e.g. prevention, cessation, etc.) for the purpose of developing the program that will meet student needs.

Other Functions

  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; performing standard bookkeeping; planning and managing projects; preparing and maintaining accurate records; applying curriculum and instructional techniques; classifying data and/or information; and conducting meetings. 

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and solve practical problems.  Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: general youth development principles,  bookkeeping principles; concepts of grammar and punctuation; office application software including relational databases;  conflict resolution; business telephone etiquette; codes/laws/rules/regulations/policies; and practicing cultural competency while working collaboratively with diverse groups and individuals. 

ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to have some impact on the organization’s services.

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling,   and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 40% sitting, 25% walking, and 35% standing.  This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

Experience      Job related experience is required.

Education        Bachelor’s degree in job-related area.

Equivalency    Any combination equivalent to: bachelor's degree in education, public health, psychology or a related field and sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above. Experience in positions working with youth development principles and community engagement strategies desirable.

The stated education and experience requirements are the preferred minimum qualifications for this job.   However, relevant experience to substitute for the education requirement and relevant education, certificates and/or licenses to substitute for the experience requirement may be allowed.
