60% One-Year Temporary TOSA INDUCTION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Will support beginning teachers in induction meetings and at school sites in learning individual plan goals year 1 and year 2 to clear their credential. • This 60% assignment will support up to 12 Teacher Candidates in the EUHSD Teacher Induction Program. • Coaches and mentors teacher candidates in different content areas on Individual Learning Plan goals that are related to the CSTPs, student engagement, etc. • Collaborates with other Mentors/ Coordinator. • Meets an average of one hour a week with each assigned teacher candidate. • Helps facilitate monthly RISE meetings from 4:30-6:30 at designated sites one time per month. • Plans and supports year-end Teacher Induction Colloquium. • Attends Teacher Performance Assessment and Teacher Induction panel meetings as needed.

SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Principal or designated administrator, coordinate activities pertaining to the content area or program of special assignment and to support student achievement and professional learning. Time may be divided between the teaching assignment, content area, professional development, and/or coordination of a particular program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Regularly attend meetings with the site and district administrative liaison(s) and peers in the program and/or content area to support student achievement, professional learning, and to monitor the progress and collaboratively engage in the continuous improvement cycle of inquiry.
  • Monitor and utilize data, student records, and collect information to identify needs, supports, and interventions.
  • Monitor the progress and implementation of curriculum, professional learning, and instructional strategies.
  • Work with appropriate site and district staff to develop, refine, and monitor curriculum, lessons, assessments, and interventions plans.
  • Coordinate, facilitate, and participate in professional development and learning with site and district staff through a variety of structures including but not limited to: Professional Learning Communities, staff meetings, department chair meetings, instructional leadership team meetings, District Trainings, and conferences.
  • Design and deliver professional learning and apply adult learning theory to effectively engage the adults in the learning process.
  • Teach in the classroom for modeling lessons, modeling instructional strategies, co-teaching, releasing teachers to visit other classrooms and/or participate in meetings with coworkers, administrators, conduct walkthroughs, visitations, or other related activities.
  • Bring a positive teaching and learning environment within the program, content area, site, and district as it relates to your work.
  • Communicate positively and regularly with administrators, staff, students, and parents
  • May perform related duties such as sponsoring one or more activities or student organizations, providing adult supervision for co-curricular events, serving on school and/or district committees, and working with team of colleagues responsible for improving instruction and school climate.
  • Perform related duties as assigned as well as all requirements listed within the current High School Teacher job description and according to the collective bargaining agreement.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and completion of fifth year college or university teaching credential program.

Master’s degree in content area or field of education or equivalent preferred.

5 years of successful high school teaching experience.

Successful site leadership experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write lesson plans, speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective presentations to classrooms of students, to colleagues in small groups and large groups.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts and to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid California Secondary credential, authorizing the teaching of the assigned subject area English Learner Authorization.

Valid California Drivers’ License and current automobile insurance.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of Microsoft computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Ability to utilize the current student information system, current grading software, current web based applications, and current apps on handheld devices. Ability to create an atmosphere in the classroom where students are encouraged to develop their full potential;  ability to communicate with students in a warm, caring, considerate manner, with the ability to find a balance between professional distance and concern for individuals; Ability to establish and maintain a cooperative rapport with other teachers, counselors, classified staff, and administration; ability to organize classroom activities, maintain classroom order;  ability to keep records and meet deadlines in grade reporting, attendance reporting, etc., and the ability to respond to parents and proactively keep parents informed of student progress, problems or concerns.
