LIBRARY TECHNICIAN Under supervision, responsible for technical and clerical functions of a high school library; assist students in the library; perform a variety of library duties; and perform related duties as required. TYPICAL DUTIES 1. Assist in circulation desk activities; 2. Assist Librarian in receiving and storing library materials, taking inventory, and maintaining orders; 3. Prepare and type purchase orders and requisitions; 4. Prepare books and periodicals for circulation; type catalogue cards; shelf list cards, book cards, book pockets, accessions, and related materials as required; 5. File catalogue cards; keep catalogue up-to-date on library books, library equipment, and audio-visual materials; 6. Assist in preparation of bibliographies of new books and periodicals; conduct bibliographic searches as needed; 7. Keep records of daily and monthly reports; send figures to District office; 8. Assist in locating desired library materials and references; 9. Establish schedule for library use as requested; 10. Assist in the instruction, scheduling, and supervision of student assistants in library clerical duties; 11. Assist in the collection of overdue and/or lost book fines and maintain records; 12. Mend and/or prepare books for the bindery; and 13. Handle routine correspondence, typing, and telephone inquiries; KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES 1. Knowledge of library practices, procedures, and rules; 2. Knowledge of Dewey Decimal System, Sears Subject Heading, and American Library Association filing rules; 3. Ability to organize and maintain books and media material in a high school library; 4. Ability to learn and interpret rules and regulations; 5. Ability to do alphabetical, numerical, and specialized library filing; 6. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions; 7. Ability to type accurately at an acceptable speed; and 8. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Any combination equivalent to: 1. Graduation from high school; and 2. Library Technician’s Certificate from an accredited college; or 3. Two years of varied clerical experience in a library.
