Job Summary:
Under direction, performs skilled journey-level work in the installation, maintenance and repair of plumbing fixtures and systems; assists in performing other maintenance duties as assigned.
Essential Job Functions:
- Inspects and renovates plumbing systems for the purpose of meeting appropriate accessibility to students, staff and the public and/or building code/s (safety and health).
- Installs plumbing systems and fixtures including sinks, hot water heaters, drinking fountains, etc. for the purpose of providing comfort, sanitation and safety within facilities.
- Orders supplies, equipment and tools for the purpose of ensuring adequate materials available to complete assignments in a timely manner.
- Orients staff for the purpose of providing information on proper operation of plumbing systems.
- Prepares various written documents (e.g. work orders including time materials, cost, plans, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, conveying information and meeting district, local, state and federal requirements.
- Repairs school site and district offices plumbing, equipment and components including gas regulator, kitchen equipment, etc. for the purpose of providing renovation and preventive maintenance of plumbing systems.
- Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
- Transports various items (e.g. equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of providing materials at job sites as required to complete tasks.
Other Job Functions:
- Assists and coordinates with district personnel and other trades' staff for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities; and, completing projects/work orders efficiently.
- Attends training programs, workshops, meetings, etc. for the purpose of maintaining skills and ensuring compliance with district, local state and federal requirements.
Essential Job Requirements - Qualifications:
- Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required: Skills to operate tools used in craft, perform basic math to calculate measurements, quantities, etc. Knowledge of appropriate health and building codes, methods and use of materials and equipment used in craft. Abilities to carry out oral and written instructions, establish priorities, work independently with minimal supervision.
- Physical Requirements: The Office of Classified Personnel Services embraces the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The requirements of the position are maintained in the Personnel Department; and, individuals shall be able to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Education and Training Required: High School graduate or equivalent and two (2) years journey-level plumbing experience.
- Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:
- Fingerprint/criminal justice clearance.
- Valid California driver's license.
- Tuberculosis clearance.
- Written examination.
