Job Description: COORDINATOR, PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT/BEGINNING TEACHER SUPPORT AND ASSESSMENT (BTSA)/NATIONAL BOARD CERTIFIED TEACHER (NBCT)
BASIC FUNCTION
Under supervision Associate Superintendent Educational Services provides leadership and focus for the coordination, articulation, implementation, and evaluation of professional development events, tasks and activities district-wide.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Plan, organize, coordinate and implement all events, tasks and activities for District-wide PD days.
- Evaluate and determine professional development needs on a regular basis using quantitative student performance data and qualitative feedback from teachers and network/other coordinators.
- Develop 'packaged' PD modules and that reflect district goals; share ‘packaged’ PD modules for site delivery via principals and student learning coaches.
- Update professional development website and advertise all district-wide sponsored professional development.
- Establish liaisons with other professional development providers, e.g. SCOE, UC Davis Writing Project, College Board and serve as District liaison for coordinating services and projects.
- Evaluate appropriateness of courses sent by teachers for approval via Prior Approval Course Form for salary advancement and coordinate review by reviewers.
- Provide support to school sites by developing special PD modules addressing specific school site needs.
- Ensure ongoing consistent delivery of high-quality workshops and other PD events on a regular basis that address focus areas of the district.
- Organize electronic and hard copy files for monitoring purposes in preparation for state reviews and other audits.
- Organize and schedule state-required or mandated PDs.
- Serve as the SCOE liaison for BTSA program, oversee district wide implementation and maintain and update records in coordination with other Coordinators.
- Maintain an inventory of equipment in support of district-wide and or network PD events, evaluate need for PD materials.
- Monitor and evaluate consistent and accurate logging of PD and Professional Growth hours and coordinate the conversion of these hours into units with HR.
- Organize PD Committee Meetings to evaluate PD needs, plan PD events, and refocus all tasks to reflect districts goal of high quality instruction.
- Provide support for aspiring NBCT candidates in the district and maintain network of NBCTs in the district.
- Prepare annual PD budget that is equitable and focused on addressing PD district goals; evaluate PD proposals from other Coordinators for alignment with district's focus areas, quality and consistency of message.
- Keep current with curricular practices and research, including common core implementation.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
- Thorough understanding of the Common Core State Standards
- Principles, practices, procedures, rules, codes, regulations, techniques and strategies of district and assigned areas of instruction;.
- State and district textbook adoption procedures, technology, book publishers, ordering practices and district procedures.
- Familiar with organization and coordination techniques utilized by purchasing and warehouse.
- Ordering, billing, problem solving, and distribution of instructional materials; principles and techniques of providing successful leadership and conflict management skills.
- Effectively work with individuals and groups.
- Effective project management skills; risk management.
- Interpersonal skills utilizing tact, patience and courtesy.
- Proficient computer technology and software skills.
Ability to:
- Manage the operations of the assigned office/services/personnel.
- Read, interpret and apply legal mandates, policies, rules, regulations and operational procedures pertaining to school and departmental operations.
- Effectively and efficiently perform highly responsible administrative functions, duties and activities.
- Provide support for schools to accelerate student achievement, eliminate all achievement gaps and move out of Program Improvement.
- Develop goals and objectives; establish and meet schedules and time lines; work with discretion and confidentiality.
- Plan, organize, coordinate, assign, review, train, and evaluate the work of others.
- Define projects and specifications; deal with a variety of projects simultaneously; prepare clear and concise management reports.
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships.
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.
- Exchange and retrieve information in person and on the telephone.
- Apply policies and procedures related to the assigned duties and responsibilities of the position with good judgment in a variety of situations.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree. Advance degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
- Multiple/Single Subjects Credential. Valid California Administrative Services credential preferred.
- Minimum of five years of experience as a classroom teacher.
- A strong background in effective implementation of professional development (workshops, training) at the regional and state level.
- Content expertise in one or more subject areas.
LICENSE
A current California Driver’s License and Proof of insurance are required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position will be an indoor office work environment and include visitations to the sites.
Physical abilities:
- Hear and speak to make presentations, and exchange information in person and on the telephone;
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard;
- See to read and prepare documents and reports, and view computer monitor;
- Sit or stand for extended periods of time;
- Bend at the wait, and reach overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally to store and retrieve files;
