Requirements / Qualifications

A community school is a “whole-child” school improvement strategy where the local educational agency (LEA) works closely with teachers, students, and families. The Community Schools Coordinator (CSC) is a dedicated staff member working in partnership with the Community Schools Steering Committee (CSSC) and is responsible for coordinating and supporting the programs that address the learning barriers for students. The CSC will work with the CSSC to assess the school community’s needs and assets; performs a root cause analysis; coordinates all student and family support services and partners; and creates a CS strategic plan. The CSC facilitates a learning environment in partnership with school administration that supports student achievement and wellness based in the 6 key practices of CS: powerful student and family engagement, collaborative leadership, shared power and voice, expanded, culturally enriched learning opportunities, rigorous community-connected classroom instruction, culture of belonging, safety and care, and integrated systems of support. The Community School Coordinator must work to create a high performing Community School wherein students and families are supported, community members are connected, and successful outcomes emerge.

An Associate's degree (or higher) from an accredited institution in communications, social services, education, school counseling or a related field. Possession of a Credential as described in Education Code 44002. Three years of professional experience working with children and/or adults in a community development role, such as developing and administering training programs, community organizing, interacting with community groups, counseling adults or working with community service agencies. Preference for candidates to have the ability to speak, read and write in a designated second language (Spanish, Punjabi).
