Under the direction of the Vice President, Student Services, the Dean of Student Affairs will be responsible for providing leadership of departments, programs, and activities that promote student academic success through student engagement and leadership.

Duties
The duties listed below are representative of the essential functions of the position.
• Provide district-wide leadership for student government and Student Life, mental health services, student health services, student discipline and conduct, service learning/Viking Volunteers, Title IX student sexual harassment/violence, and commencement.
• Guide the Associated Student Body (ASB), student life staff, and student health staff in promoting innovative strategies to continuously increase student involvement in campus events, programs, and activities that improve student success, including persistence, successful course completion, and goal attainment.
• Develop and administer student discipline processes and training that promote prevention and early intervention, faculty and staff involvement, and student advocacy and personal development.
• Assist with coordinating the College's response to Title IX sexual harassment/violence complaints involving students, including monitoring OCR timeline, overseeing investigations, and identifying remedies and prevention/educational activities.
• Guide district-wide efforts to expand service learning opportunities that support student academic success.
• Promote the development of student leadership skills through participation in ASB government, clubs, and student leadership training programs.
• Provide leadership to develop and implement programming that acknowledges, honors, and respects campus diversity.
• Work closely with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness to review and analyze data and statistics for the purpose of improving the impact of services on student success.
• Hire, evaluate, and develop academic, classified, and part-time personnel.
• Develop, modify, evaluate and assess program goals and objectives and Service Unit Outcomes.
• Oversee the coordination of student activities, including game room operations, intramural activities, student identification card systems and campus clubs.
• Make recommendations pertaining to space utilization.
• Develop, monitor and manage department and program budgets, and provide leadership and supervision to assure proper control of ASB funds.
• Assure compliance with California Education Code and the California Code of Regulations.
• Administer and promote Board approved policies and regulations, especially as they relate to the departments and programs under the supervision of the incumbent.
• Foster an atmosphere of mutual respect and openness that will promote collaboration among students, faculty, and staff.
• Organize and chair meetings, facilitate group discussions and involve faculty and staff in idea generation, goal setting, decision-making, and evaluation.
• Make presentations as necessary to various groups within the district, community, and state.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President, Student Support Services.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Master's degree from an accredited institution, AND
• One year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrative assignment AND
• Evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Three years of extensive administrative and leadership experience as a dean, program director, department head or coordinator within or associated with student services.
• Two years administrative experience in behavioral assessment, and/or Title IX compliance with demonstrated knowledge and experience relating to Title IX compliance regulations.
• Experience at developing student development and/or health and wellness programs and services that increase student persistence and academic success.
• Experience in administering student discipline procedures, including conducting investigations, sanctioning, and appeals processes.
• Experience related to the responsibilities listed above focusing on student engagement and leadership in a multicultural environment.
• Experience at interpreting and administering student services policies, administrative guidelines, and procedures that include standards of student conduct, student due process, distribution of literature, and free speech.
• Experience at working effectively with diverse constituencies in a participatory governance environment.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
• The mission of California Community Colleges; teaching and learning strategies and experience in evaluation of those strategies; and an understanding of the curriculum process and ability to develop and implement credit and not-for-credit programs.

• Manage faculty and staff with full consideration for bargaining agreements and employment laws

• Relate well and work effectively with faculty, staff, students, and business and industry representatives of diverse backgrounds.
• Actively promote, encourage and support faculty development, and encourage and promote innovation and excellence in teaching and learning
• Maintain relationships with area high school and university instructors and encourage linkages that promote clearly articulated career pathways.
• Work effectively in a participatory manner with all segments of the college community and community at large.
• Represent the College in a highly professional manner including clear communication through writing and speaking with the ability to develop and deliver professional presentations
• Communicate effectively and knowledgeably with faculty and community leaders that work in highly technical disciplines
• Interpret and uniformly implement district policies and procedures
• Understand and adhere to college bargaining agreements when making decisions
• Demonstrated successful experience meeting deadlines.
• Exhibit and promote a commitment and sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, gender, cultural, disability, religious background and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff as well as commitment to integrating diversity in the College's instructional program.
• Solve problems and make timely, fair, and equitable decisions.
• Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
• Manage multiple projects while meeting schedules and timelines.
• Understand and appreciate the mission of community colleges and relate it to all constituencies.
• Work independently with limited supervision.

• Work a flexible schedule that includes travel, working evenings, attending public meetings and student functions
• Create and give professional presentations to internal and external audiences.
LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATE:
A valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's vehicle insurance policy.
