SECONDARY ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL (7-12)
Serve under the direction of the School Principal as a member of the school’s leadership team.
Implement the operational procedures and processes of the site; implement instructional goals and objectives; conduct staff development and staff training programs and activities aimed at improving student achievement; conduct public and community relations programs; perform other related functions as directed.
DUTIES INCLUDE:
• Assists the Principal in the general administration of the school and assumes responsibility in her/his absence.
• Serve as an instructional leader of an academically rigorous secondary school.
• Assists with the coordination of curriculum development efforts, including the implementation of instructional programs and activities that conform to state and district standards and that are designed to meet the needs of students and the educational community within the school attendance area.
• Conducts and maintains performance evaluation information systems designed to insure that site goals and objectives are achieved, and that all levels of staff adhere to site, District, state, and national educational standards and goals.
• Supervises co and extra curricular activities including athletic events.
• Works closely with the staff and appropriate advisory groups in assessing the school’s educational and program needs, and developing short-term and long-range planning strategies for creating an optimal educational program.
• Assists in the coordination of a master calendar of programs and activities to achieve the determined goals and objectives.
• Assists with budget planning and the development of expenditure control procedures.• Coordinates the procurement of instructional materials and supplies, monitors the allocation and adequacy of textbooks, instructional materials and supplies.
• Supervises the school counseling and guidance services, attendance monitoring and reporting, and special education programs.
• Confers, consults with, and advises District, public, and private agency personnel, and parents concerning student educational and behavior problems, and determines alternative problem solutions.
• Supervises, observe, and assesses site personnel performance, and provides counsel and assistance as required.• Assists site personnel in resolving rights disputes which may include formal hearing proceedings.
• Assists in developing the master schedule; resolves scheduling conflicts and monitors class size limits.
• Participates in the formation and functions of District and site advisory groups.
• Assists the school community and the public in their awareness of the site goals and objectives and the strategies for achieving them.
• Assists in the development, implementation, interpretation, and administration of policies, rules, and regulations, and negotiated employee agreements.
• Supervises and assists with the assignment of instructional and pupil support personnel.
• May be responsible for the management, monitoring, auditing, and evaluating of specially funded programs.
• Provides, as required, management reports pertaining to the educational climate and the functions and activities of the school facility.
• Assists with campus supervision and the security of buildings and grounds.
• Assumes responsibility for student control; including handling student discipline.
• Assists with referrals to continuation and opportunity schools/programs.
• Participates in re-admittance decisions of suspended pupils.
• Coordinates student and family assistance programs with social service and youth service agencies.
• Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of:Secondary level curricula; the educational needs of English learners; applications of technology to teaching and learning; instructional techniques, strategies, and goals toward achievement of world class education standards; procedures, methods, and trends or organization and effective management of a secondary school; curriculum development strategies, instructional delivery systems, and program evaluation processes; evaluation techniques for determining program activity and personnel effectiveness; principles of school based management and shared decision making; human relations and conflict resolution strategies, and team building principles and techniques; philosophical, economic, and legal aspects of public education.Ability to:Manage, lead, and direct the functions and activities of a secondary school with a diverse student population; demonstrate outstanding instructional, organizational, and leadership skills; systematically analyze problems, determine alternative problem solutions, and make appropriate and effective decisions; communicate effectively in oral and written form; understand and carry out oral and written directions with minimal supervision; establish and maintain effective organizational, public, and community relationships.
Experience:Five years of successful teaching experience.
Education:Equivalent to the completion of a Master of Arts or higher degree from an accredited college or university in curriculum, educational administration, instructional technology, or closely related field.
Certification Requirement:Possess a valid California credential authorizing service as a secondary school principal.10/03
