CLASS TITLE: ACCOUNTING SPECIALIST
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Accounting Manager, perform accounting clerical work involving the maintenance of fiscal records involved in one or more specialized programs.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Maintain various financial or statistical records and reports; make and verify extensions; prepare summaries, financial statements and accounting reports as necessary in support of assigned programs.
Perform accounting clerical work in posting, assembling, tabulating and reconciling financial data; post to journals and ledgers; prepare warrants, invoices, time records, requisitions and similar fiscal documents; reconcile bank statements; prepare journal entries and budget transfers.
Provide clerical accounting services for an assigned program involving a variety of accounts such as accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger.
Maintain files and records of travel and conference expenses; audit claims for travel and expense.
Review financial reports and accounting records for accuracy, completeness and compliance with standard.
Operate various office machines including a computer and applicable software.
OTHER DUTIES:
Collect and compile data for assigned duties.
File records and documents relating to work performed.
Serve as an information resource to school and departmental personnel.
Perform other duties, related to the job, as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
KNOWLEDGE OF:
School District organization, operations, policies and objectives.
Bookkeeping principles and financial record keeping practices used in making financial or statistical reports in a system involving data processing.
Filing techniques.
Inventory and stock control methods.
Applicable sections of the State Education Code and other applicable laws.
Operation of a computer and applicable software.
ABILITY TO:
Type at 35 words net per minute from clear copy.
Maintain complex records, analyze data and prepare accurate reports.
Apply bookkeeping and financial record-keeping principles.
Follow oral and written instructions.
Operate computer and ancillary equipment in the application of specialized accounting software.
Read and interpret various Federal and State guidelines, or other information that pertains to work.
Add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers and fractions and compute percentages.
Analyze and verify numbers.
Communicate orally and in writing.
Work confidentially and with discretion.
Write and print legibly.
Work independently with little direction.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school supplemented by college-level course work and two years accounting clerical experience.
