Job Summary
The primary responsibility of the Instructional Coach is to grow teachers’ practice through coaching and professional development in order to support student growth and achievement.
Requirements / Qualifications
Qualifications & Experience: Bachelor’s Degree Minimum 3 years teaching experience Ability to teach at high school level: valid, cleared CA Single Subject Credential or Supplemental Authorization Full English Learner Authorization (CA ELA authorization) or BCLAD credential (required) (if an out of state candidate does not currently have the authorization, would need to be willing to add it within one year of being hired) Experience developing teachers through coaching and/or mentoring Experience developing and/or facilitating professional development (preferred) Experience managing and prioritizing multiple projects with a variety of stakeholders Excellent ability to collect, organize, and analyze data to improve school programs and instructional practices Strong verbal and written communication skills Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suites History of producing measurable student achievement gains Industriousness and enthusiasm: doing whatever it takes to ensure students’ success Humility and receptiveness to feedback Spanish Fluency (preferred)
Responsibilities Coach 6 - 12 school site personnel including teachers and other staff. Establish and maintain a trusting relationship with teachers Engage teachers in coaching cycles to increase teacher effectiveness and student achievement. Observe teacher practice and monitor instructional planning weekly to inform coaching action steps Meet with assigned teachers weekly (depending on schedule, this may be outside of school hours) for an average of 60 minutes per week Demonstrate skillful use of coaching language Give constructive feedback and help with next steps to accelerate new teacher development in creating an optimal learning environment Use knowledge of equity principles to deepen teachers’ application of California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTP) and Common Core State Standards (CCSS) Participate in all coaching professional learning sessions and in-field coaching sessions as needed Maintain and submit required documentation (including but not limited to): Interaction logs to record all interactions with teachers Coaching data analysis/records to drive decision making for teacher development and student achievement Current and accurate calendar reflecting scheduled meetings Collaborate with school and Support Team staff to plan and facilitate professional development Collaborate with Instructional Leadership Team to monitor and grow schoolwide practices for teaching and learning that lead to equitable outcomes for all students (e.g. instructional planning, classroom instruction, assessments, gradebooks) Motivate and support staff and students’ holistic growth in order to achieve consistently high academic outcomes.

Salary: BSS salary is commensurate with experience and education;role is placed on Bright Star Schools Dean Salary scale and prorated for 11 months; the salary range begins at 72k and would be adjusted based on years of FT work experience
Start Date: An exceptional candidate will assume a full time role no later than August 16, 2023
