DEFINITION: Under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent, Personnel, this person acts as a receptionist, operates the district office switchboard, gives routine information to the public and performs various personnel related clerical work. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: This classification is usually assigned to operate the district’s central telephone switchboard located at the central administration office complex; to act as receptionist and may assist other departments and offices with a variety of clerical work. DUTIES: 1. Assists the Personnel Department in a variety of personnel related duties. 2. Operates a central telephone switchboard. 3. Receives incoming calls and makes connections and transfers. 4. Takes and transmits messages and gives routine information as requested. 5. Receives visitors, answers questions, and refers persons to appropriate staff and/or offices. 6. Distributes and accepts job applications, and answers questions regarding job vacancies. 7. Composes, proofreads and types letters, memoranda and notices, and performs a variety of related clerical tasks for Personnel, as may be necessary. 8. Clips newspaper articles, job vacancy postings, and other materials relating to the school district. 9. Updates and maintains reception office bulletin boards and vacancy bulletins. 10. Maintains district calendar of events and disseminates to the public as necessary. 11. Assists in preparing vacancy bulletins to provide public notice of job vacancies. 12. Places advertisements in various media, universities, etc. 13. May assist other departments on an occasional basis. 14. Assists in organizing and maintaining files and records. 15. Screens visitors, takes messages and assists with scheduling appointments for District staff. 16. Operates a variety of office machines, including a computer and fax machine. 17. Performs other duties as required or as assigned. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of: Operation of computer and telephone system; telephone etiquette and business communication techniques; proper use of English, spelling, grammar and composition; modern office procedures, methods and equipment. Ability to: Operate a telephone system, provide routine, factual information to visitors and callers; perform a variety of general clerical work including the operation of standard office machines including a computer; learn and utilize names; titles; offices activities and applicable telephone numbers; use proper and appropriate telephone etiquette and techniques; understand and carry out oral and written directions; establish and maintain cooperative relations with those contacted in the course of work. Receptionist/Personnel Clerk, Page Two EDUCATION: Equivalent to graduation from high school. Some college or vocational training preferred. EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of general clerical experience, including one (1) year of experience which indicates an ability to interact with the general public and administrative offices, using sound public relations and communication skills. SKILLS: Bilingual preferred. Type at a speed of 40 words per minute. EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Bargaining Unit Position PHYSICAL ABILITIES: 1. Visual capability to read handwritten or typed documents, and the display screen of various office equipment and machines. 2. Able to conduct verbal conversation. 3. Able to hear normal range verbal conversation (approximately 60 decibels). 4. Able to sit, stand, stoop, kneel, bend and walk. 5. Able to sit for sustained periods of time. 6. Able to climb slopes, stairs, steps and ladders. 7. Able to lift up to 30 pounds. 8. Able to carry up to 30 pounds. 9. Able to operate office machines and equipment in a safe and effective manner. 10. Demonstrate manual dexterity necessary to operate a calculator, typewriter and/or computer keyboard at the required speed and accuracy. Adopted: 10/03/96

- A minimum typing speed of 40 words per minute is required. - DATE OF TYPING TEST: Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at 8:30 AM at the PVUSD District Office. - A typing certificate of 40 wpm or hight, from Palo Verde College, will be accepted in lieu of PVUSD typing test. - Typing certificate must be turned in with the application to waive PVUSD typing test.
