PARAEDUCATOR

JOB SUMMARY
Paraeducator will, under general supervision of site Principal and/or designee, perform necessary duties of a responsible nature to assist in the meet the goals of the comprehensive program for children, to assist in the planning and implementation of a program for special needs children, and to assist in the monitoring of student progress and assessment.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge and Application of:
District policies and procedures as they apply; Operation of a variety of office machines used in a modern office environment; Record keeping techniques; Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary; Oral and written communication skills; interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy; Child growth and development principles; applicable sections of the State Education Code and other applicable laws. Demonstrated literacy in a language other than English may be required in some positions required language; Spanish

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THIS POSITION:
May include, but not limited to:
1.Perform a wide variety of specialized and responsible work; work independently; interpret and apply rules and regulations as appropriate.
2.Review, check, correct and compile a variety of information; verify data for accuracy, completeness and compliance with established procedures relating to student development and progress.
3.Assist in planning and implementing suitable learning experiences and learning environment for students.
4.Assist in setting up, monitoring and cleaning up program facilities.
5.Complete position-related clerical tasks.
6.Assist in implementing individual educational plans and therapeutic programs.
7.Assist and instruct students in various areas of instruction.
8.Attend appropriate staff meetings and in-service training.
9.Assist in monitoring of individual student files.
10.Prepare and maintain a variety of logs, records and files, including information of a confidential nature; maintain confidentiality of information and records.
11.Supervise and/or participate in playground activities, lunch activities, bus loading and unloading, as needed.
12.Work with individual students and/or groups of students for purposes of observing, testing, assessment, collection of data, etc.
13.May assist students, certificated staff and/or parents with communication problems resulting from limited knowledge of English.
14.Perform related duties as assigned.


Experience/Education:

  • High School diploma or G.E.D required. AND
  • Two years of study at an institute of higher education equivalent to 48 semester units; OR
  • A.A. degree (or higher), OR
  • California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST); OR
  • Passage of a local assessment "Paraeducator Exam" demonstrating knowledge of, and the ability to, assist in the instruction of reading, writing, and mathematics. 
  • One (1) year experience in providing various methods of instruction, including direct instruction, in an educational environment desirable.

Conditions of Employment:
Successful completion of District-Sponsored Certification training as Direct Instruction Instructor

Salary Range: N – Classified Salary Schedule
