General Description

Under the direction of the College of Sequoias (COS) designated administrator the Early College Success Liaison will provide college transition support as well support student success case management and support for high school students enrolling in early college classes and interested in transferring to COS as a part of the Visalia Early Technical College. The Early College Success Liaison will be a part of COS Student Services team and will employ best practices to ensure HS students in early college students have the best opportunity for student success and smooth transition to COS.

10 month Grant Funded position through June 30, 2026

This position is assigned to the Visalia Early Technical College Campus. Full-time, 10 months, M-F 7:45 a.m. - 4:45 p.m. Initial placement is at
$36.47 per hour

Job Duties

Job duties of the Early College Center include:

• Plan, coordinate and conduct activities and programs to provide enrollment and transition assistance to prospective COS students in the relevant feeder high school.
• Coordinate between feeder high school instructors, student services staff, counselors and administrators to enhance the academic success of students in COS courses.
• Coordinate between COS instructors, student services staff, student success staff, counselors, career services staff and administrators to enhance the academic success of students.
• Collaborate with the District's Welcome Center, Outreach and Financial Aid staff to provide workshops and information to prospective students.
• Understand multiple functions of A&R, Outreach, Financial Aid, AAC and Counseling to assist student in their early college enrollment and classes.
• Attend regular staff meetings of COS and the feeder high school.
• Assist with registration and enrollment of the feeder high school students into COS classes.
• Coordinate with feeder school students, staff and administrators to create Early College “Plans of Study” considering student goals, abilities, as well as COS degree and available classes.
• Coordinate COS Counselor meetings/appointments for early college students ready to create a comprehensive COS Student Education Plan.
• Identification of appropriate COS courses for early college students.
• Monitor early college students' progress in COS coursework and refer to COS services as needed.
• Perform case management for early college students connecting them to services during their enrollment in COS classes on any of the campuses and communicating with HS personnel about potential supports and interventions needed by students.
• Facilitate appropriate responses to student Early Alerts.
• Administer a regular schedule of recurring student meetings to address student needs.
• Record attendance and individualized comments for each student after each session. Document progress, goals, to-do list, and any other information-requiring follow-up.
• Provide technical support for early college students with COS systems, such as Banner, Universal Login and Degree Works.
• Provide COS informational presentations for early college students, parents, and staff.
• Coordinate an academic success program for students while promoting an environment of academic excellence and promoting student success and retention.
• Administer a regular schedule of recurring student meetings to address student needs.
• Oversee and develop reports to assist in the assessment of the Early College Program and the partnership between the early college and COS.
• Participate in relevant advisory committee meetings for COS or feeder school programs.
• Initiate and maintain positive relations with feeder high school administrators, counselors, and faculty and with public agencies and community groups.
• Schedule campus visits for prospective students.
• Keep abreast of educational and student support programs to provide accurate and timely information about the college.
• Maintain a variety of records, logs, and student files including those of a confidential nature; prepare periodic and special reports and statistical data related to program activities and effectiveness.
• Develop flyers and letters for promotional purposes as necessary.
• Maintain a variety of data and statistical reports regarding outreach activities and their effectiveness.
• Other duties as assigned including night/weekend assignments, group meetings, and off-campus outreach.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience)

Any combination equivalent to:

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution 
AND
• Two years of professional experience in education or the equivalent.
• Strong critical thinking and communications skills, as well as the ability to work independently while developing strong collaborative relationships with colleagues, students, student services, and academic services units as well as the feeder school(s) for which the position serves.
• The individual must be able to exercise excellent professional judgment and discretion, making decisions on a regular basis that impact student welfare. 
AND
• Demonstrated sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, social, economic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Skill assessing academic difficulties, developing appropriate remedies and evaluating and assessing effectiveness of student support intervention.
• Experience in student services, outreach or student development programs at a high school or college level with ability to work successfully with students of diverse backgrounds.
• Organizational skills with the ability to efficiently and effectively manage multiple work priorities.
• Outstanding customer service skills.

Licenses and Other Requirements:

• Valid California driver's license.
• An incumbent must be insurable at the “standard rate” by the employer's insurance carrier at all times while employed in this classification by the College of the Sequoias.

• Interpret, apply and explain district policies and legal regulations and requirements
• Establish rapport with high school, junior high, and elementary school administrators, counselors, and faculty.
• Communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
• Organize, prioritize and schedule work to meet time lines.
• Understand and independently carry out oral and written instructions.
• Accurately complete required statistical reports, using appropriate and correct English, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
• Operate a computer and assigned software.
• Assign and review the work of others.
