The Elementary Assistant Principal is responsible for assisting with the overall management of the school as designated by the Elementary Principal. Tasks include student behavior, curriculum and instruction, attendance, parent and student activities, site management, and other related functions. Responsibilities may vary among sites according to individual school structure.
QUALIFICATIONS
Appropriate Administrative credential authorizing service as a K-6 Assistant Principal. Master’s Degree and Bilingual/Spanish desirable. A minimum of three years of prior teaching experience required.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
As assigned by the supervisor, the duties of the Elementary Assistant Principal shall include, but not be limited to the following:
1. Assisting the principal in the selection, evaluation, supervision, and placement of school employees.
2. Providing leadership to the staff in assessing school needs and determining objectives as the basis for developing long and short-range plans for the school.
3. Interpreting and implementing the curriculum program in the light of individual school needs.
4. Providing educational leadership in curriculum development and in-service training in assigned areas of instruction.
5. Assuming responsibility for student discipline; holding conferences; conferring with counselors, parents, and teachers in psychological referrals and school transfers.
6. Supervising and establishing procedures for effective supervision of school events.
7. Coordinating fire, disaster, and civil defense drills in cooperation with the appropriate agencies.
8. Establishing the duty roster, which provides proper supervision of students.
9. Assisting in the enforcement of school attendance laws and implementing proper attendance in all classes.
10. Sharing responsibility for plant and grounds supervision, general maintenance, and bus transportation of students.
11. Coordinating and administering student government, club programs, and other activities.
12. Coordinating the preparation of school and district reports.
13. Enforcing district policies and aiding in the general operation of the school program by accepting a reasonable share of the responsibility.
14. Performing other duties as assigned.
