Requirements / Qualifications
Position Description: This position supports schools and districts in providing equitable, high quality science instruction in grades TK-12. Applicants should have a strong understanding of the Next Generation Science Standards and the 2016 CA Science Framework. Applicants should have working knowledge of the science curriculum adoption process (CA NGSS TIME) and the specific requirements for science at various grade levels, including the course models available for middle and high school. Additionally, applicants should be able to articulate how science integrates with all aspects of STEAM and other areas of focus in educational systems, including Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS). The Project Coordinator for science is expected to plan, prepare, and provide engaging science professional learning opportunities that address the needs of educators and systems throughout Sonoma County. The coordinator will assist school and district leadership in establishing and supporting high quality, equitable science instruction within their systems. They will also serve as a resource to schools and districts as they explore, review, and adopt science curriculum materials and/or course models and seek to address inequities that exist around science education in their current system. The coordinator is expected to stay up to date on statewide and national trends, policies, and initiatives related to science education that could impact students and educators in Sonoma County. The coordinator will also provide opportunities for science educators from multiple systems in Sonoma County to learn together, collaborate, and exchange ideas. The coordinator will also collaborate with department team members on interdisciplinary projects and training and will work to integrate other content areas and the expertise of department members and the science community into science offerings.
