LAS VIRGENES UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT JOB DESCRIPTION
CLASS TITLE:Assistant Principal - Middle School
BASIC FUNCTIONS:
Under the direction of the principal, assumes responsibility for discipline and attendance of the student personnel, student body business operation and student activities program; serves as a member of the management team; and does other work as required.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
•Implements conflict resolution strategies for I between students;
•Supervises the budgeting and management of student body funds, including fund raising activities;
•Supervises the operation and management of the student body store;
•Develops and maintains school master calendar;
•Participates inpolicy formulation and decisions regarding implementation of policy;
•Directs and coordinates all student body co-curricular activities including transportation arrangements;
•Provides adult leadership for the student body government program;
•Participates in supervision and evaluation of curriculum and instruction;
•Communicates and counsels with parents in relation to discipline and attitude of assigned pupils;
•Communicates and interprets information concerning pupils to the proper school personnel and community agencies;
•Directs and coordinates the use and maintenance of the school plant and grounds, and supervises the custodial staff assigned to the middle school;
•Supervises and evaluates classified staff;
•Performs other specific duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of:
•Laws relating to student discipline, welfare and attendance;
•School business management and budgeting;
•Organization and supervision of school personnel;
•Student activities and government;
•Community relations;
•Board Policies;
•Standards Based Instruction.
Ability to:
•Communicate with students, parents, booster organizations and staff;
•Organize and direct student activities programs;
•Plan and implement the school's student body fiscal operation;
•Supervise school activities;
•Develop and implement master schedule. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
•Master of Arts Degree;
•Evidence of continuing education;
•Five years as a classroom teacher and involvement in student activities, business or related areas.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Possess:
•California Teaching Credential;
•California Administrative Credential authorizing service in Grades 6-12 or K-12.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Environment:
•Subject to classroom and playground settings, which may include inside and outside environmental conditions;
•Subject to driving between sites.
Physical Abilities:
•Sitting and standing for extended periods of time;
•Dexterity of hands and fingers for operating office equipment, carrying, pushing or lifting classroom equipment and supplies;
•Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching;
•Seeing to observe students in classroom activities;
•Hearing and speaking to communicate with others;
•Moving around a classroom or playground environment freely and independently enough to observe children naturally and unobtrusively.
