Job Summary
Under general supervision, responsible to take care of infants and pre-school age children; provides guidance to school-aged children during after school and other programs; assists instructors in the supervision of learning activities on the playground and in the classroom. JOB RELATIONSHIPS: The preponderance of the duties in this class encompass the care and creation of learning enrichment activities for preschool-age children in care centers and for school-age children during non-school hours. These duties along with duties associated with the care of infants distinguish positions in this class from those performed by employees assigned to positions allocated to other instructional assistant classes.
Requirements / Qualifications
One year of part-time paid or volunteer experience working with children. Experience working with infants and preschool children preferred. College course work equivalent to 12 semester units/four courses or specialized training directly related to the duties can be substituted for this experience. In addition to experience, (A) completion of at least 2 years of study at an institution of higher education; or (B) possession of an associate's (or higher) degree; or (C) graduation from high school and passage of a formal state or local academic assessment that demonstrates knowledge and the ability to assist in teaching reading, writing, and mathematics or reading, writing, and mathematics readiness.
