JOB TITLE: ACCOUNTANT I

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Performs complex and technical accounting and clerical work required to organize and maintain financial and statistical records.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Arranges, posts, verifies invoices related to assigned area(s) including control counts, supportive records, and new accounts income.
2. Prepares and distributes purchase orders and/or computer reports.
3. Performs verifications of financial records and data entry.
4. Checks, assembles, and prepares accounts payable data for issuance of warrants; issues warrants; checks invoices and purchase orders.
5. Performs data entry from source documents.
6. Interprets and applies appropriate rules and regulations related to the assigned area(s) of responsibility.
7. Communicates with outside agencies and persons regarding financial and accounting matters.
8. Manages petty cash fund or student body fund as required.
9. Maintains records related to vacation, sick leave, and other absences.
10. Distributes Cyle I and II payroll checks.
11. Provides information for employment verification.
12. Performs related accounting, payroll, and clerical work as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Correct English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation; data
entry equipment and procedures; methods, practices and
terminology used in bookkeeping and financial record keeping;
accounting principles and procedures.
Ability to:
Organize financial and accounting data and prepare accurate
reports and summaries; post data; make arithmetical calculations
rapidly and accurately; operate general office machines including
calculators and computers; keyboard and 10 key by touch;
establish and maintain required accounting procedures; understand
and carry out oral and written directions; communicate
effectively and maintain cooperative relationships with those
contacted in the course of work.
Experience:
One (1) year of accounting and data entry experience or related
experience/training.
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of course work in bookkeeping and accounting or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Supervision:
Works under general supervision of the Director of Fiscal
Services. May receive direction and technical assistance from
Accountant II, Head Accountant, Accountant IV-Payroll, or Payroll Technician.
