About the Employer

The Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) serves some of Orange County’s most vulnerable student populations and provides support and mandated fiscal oversight to 28 school districts serving more than 600 schools and approximately 475,000 students. In addition to providing direct instruction to students through its own alternative and special education programs, OCDE administers an array of programs and services that are critical to the operations of local school districts and community colleges, facilitating professional development, legal guidance, payroll, career and technical education support, high-speed internet access, Local Control and Accountability Plan assistance and approval, resources for families, and student enrichment. Job Summary

Job Summary

The Senior Payroll Technician will be responsible for interpreting payroll /district policies, procedures, and provide information to assist management and employees. Provide customer service and assist employees/sites/districts with payroll resolution. Evaluate and research payroll discrepancies; prepare and reconcile quarterly employer tax returns; generate applicable federal, Social Security, and Medicare tax deposits as necessary; prepare and reconcile quarterly returns for federal and state agencies. OCDE's Business Services Division is currently looking for a professional to serve as Senior Payroll Technician. This position will perform highly specialized payroll duties involving the payroll reporting and records of school districts, ensuring that all preparation, administration, auditing, and maintenance functions are carried out in an accurate, timely manner in accordance with all applicable legal requirements. The person selected will be expected to perform job assignments without close supervision using knowledge of multiple automated systems and databases. This position will work closely with staff of the various school districts in the resolution of payroll challenges and work closely with a variety of OCDE staff, banks, federal agencies,attorneys, and collection agencies to carry out these responsibilities. OCDE's Administrative Services Division is currently looking for a professional to serve as Senior Payroll Technician. The person selected will be expected to perform job assignments without close supervision using knowledge of multiple automated systems and databases. This position will work closely with staff of the various school sites/divisions in the resolution of payroll challenges and work closely with a variety of OCDE staff, banks, federal agencies, attorneys, and collection agencies to carryout these responsibilities.

Requirements / Qualifications

Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: • Five years experience in timekeeping, payroll duties, and functions. • Associate's degree in bookkeeping, accounting, or related field. Experience in a public agency is especially desirable.
