Requirements / Qualifications
The Baldwin Park Unified School District is seeking a Public Information Officer (PIO). Under the general direction of the Superintendent, gathers, plans, coordinates, and implements strategic communication activities, which includes a comprehensive internal and external public relations program; maintains communication links with employees, parents, news media, business, community groups, social media platforms, and other agencies; develops strategies for the implementation of the public relations program; coordinates school/business/community partnerships and events; designs, lays out, writes, and edits material for publications; meets with community groups, staff members, and others as the District’s information representative; provides administrative assistance to the Superintendent, District, and site administrators on community relations and other matters; markets the activities of the District using various mediums; and performs other duties as assigned. Due to attendance during evening and weekend events, meetings, and other activities, work hours will vary. For more information, please click on "view job description". REQUIREMENTS: -Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in journalism, marketing, public relations, English, or other related field. -Four years of increasingly responsible experience in public information, public relations, or related media services. -Experience or training in public relations, news reporting, feature writing, publicity writing, other writing for publications, or other related experience. -A valid California driver’s license and the availability of private transportation or the ability to provide transportation between job sites may be required. PREFERENCES: -Public relations or community work in a school district is desirable. -Ability to communicate (written and oral) in English and Spanish is desirable.
