The Therapist is primarily responsible for helping students to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally, through individual and group counseling and by collaborating with educators, parents, and other professionals to create a safe, healthy, and supportive learning environment that strengthens connections between home and school. This role will work between our elementary campus in Orange and our high school campus in Buena Park. Position Details: Provides individual and group counseling sessions to help resolve interpersonal or family problems that interfere with school performance, including crisis intervention consultation as needed. Conducts interviews with students, family members, and school personnel to gather information required to assess student social, emotional and behavioral adjustment to school and the community. Maintains regular contact with students' parents/guardians to inform of student's progress, areas of difficulties and any changes or situations in home life that may affect school performance. Develops and updates Individualized Education Plans (IEP) and Positive Behavior Intervention Plans (PBIP) as needed in adherence to company, school, state and federal regulations and procedures. Attends and participates in IEP team meeting, facilitating at the discretion of the school district. Actively participates in other team meetings when necessary

JOB SUMMARY:  Provides clinical and educational support for teachers and students in functional skills classrooms, conducts functional behavior assessments, develops behavior intervention plans, responsible for behavior analytic trainings and measuring individual staff performance as well as the ongoing coaching and support, and is the chief quality assurance agent of the functional skills programs assuring compliance with laws, regulations, and internal standards for educational and behavioral services.  Divides time equally between coaching and support within the classroom during instructional hours and ensuring that deadlines are met for paperwork responsibilities. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provides leadership for the overall behavioral programming for the campus including the use of antecedent strategies, the focus on teaching replacement behaviors, and responding to behaviors utilizing the principles of behavior analysis 
  • Provides ongoing monitoring of the quality of student academic and behavioral services and provides the necessary coaching to staff to ensure fidelity of implementation of evidence-based strategies
  • Assesses the overall needs of the program, designs training programs based on those needs and implements those training programs. Identifies and coordinates the need for additional resources
  • Conducts Functional Behavior Assessments and develops Behavior Intervention Plans
  • Participates in on-going personal professional development through conferences, trainings, and seminars to remain relevant within the field of behavior analysis
  • Actively participates in behavioral crises by implementing CPI principles and coaching staff through a behavioral episode 
  • Assists in the hiring, orientation, and training of teachers
  • Researches and makes recommendations for the use of evidence-based curricula in the classrooms that meet the requirements set forth by the Department of Education
  • Provides input and problem solve challenging student behavioral and academic needs
  • Develops strategies for transitioning students to LRE
  • Attends and participates in all required meetings including Senior Behavior Analyst Meeting, Site Team Meeting, All Staff Meetings, etc.
  • Ensures compliance with the Department of Education regulations and Spectrum Center’s internal standards 

 

Qualifications

Education

Required

  • Bachelors or better in Education or related field.

Experience

Required

  • Ability to think and act quickly and calmly in an emergency situation and make independent decisions.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint is required
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • 2 years: Working with individuals with Emotional Disturbance/ED and challenging behaviors
