Job Description / Essential Elements:    Print   
CLASS TITLE: ACCOUNTANT BASIC FUNCTION: Maintain the accounting records of the District and prepare financial statements and reports; assist in the preparation of the District budget; monitor expenditures. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: E = Essential Function Individual positions may not perform all of the duties listed nor do these examples include all responsibilities of positions in this class. Accumulate financial details and codes and record pertinent District financial information. E Prepare records and input to computer terminal. E Establish procedures for obtaining financial information; assist in directing the work of the accounting office. E Assist in preparation of District budget; provide estimates of income and expenditures; monitor expenditures in relation to the approved budget and report variances to appropriate District administrators. E Close accounting books, including filing reports of accounts receivable and current liabilities. E Prepare a variety of annual reports, including reports on average daily attendance, expenditures for special classes, pupil transportation, adult school expenses, Children’s Center and Pre-School programs. E Work closely with District auditor. E Provide in-service training for school and office personnel in accounting and budget procedures. E Reconcile bank statements. E Perform related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: Principles and practices of accounting and auditing. Computer entry procedures. Procedures and practices required in research, data collection, statistical computation and reports. ABILITY TO: Learn laws and regulations pertaining to school accounting operations and budget procedures. Learn coding financial data for computer entry. Apply accounting principles and procedures. Examine, verify and prepare financial documents and reports. Operate computer terminal, calculating machines, ten-key adding machines and typewriter with speed and accuracy. Analyze data, draw logical conclusions and prepare comprehensive reports. Make arithmetic computations with speed and accuracy. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Read, interpret and apply State, federal and District regulations. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: college graduation or equivalent experience in accounting or related field and increasingly responsible experience in financial and statistical record-keeping, preferably in a school district. WORKING CONDITIONS: ENVIRONMENT: Office environment. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and standard office equipment. Sitting for extended periods of time. Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching. Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally to maintain and retrieve files. Board Approved 11/2/99
