Academia Avance Middle School is a 6 - 8 charter school in the Highland Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. We seek dedicated educators with a passion for growth and being part of a strong team environment. We are seeking a Social Studies teacher. We have brand new digital curriculum through Savvas along with comprehensive PD to build your capacity and make you the most effective you can be. We are a small, close team committed to growth mindset and supporting our students, our families, and each other. Tools and support from administration are the cornerstone of the new era that we are building for our school. Responsibilities: -Passionately instruct 5 periods per day of middle school science curriculum (Savvas Curriculum used) to develop a lifelong love of reading, math, and learning. -Daily house mentor teacher for approximately 20 6-8 grade students -Utilize diagnostic, formative, and summative assessment to maximize student learning -Assist with student monitoring during free time including, but not limited to recess, inter-house competition (during school hours), lunch supervision -Administer and monitor state required assessments -Attending all meetings including professional development, C3 (SEL), stakeholder retreat, and annual NELA Holiday Parade -Making pedagogical values visible by displaying exemplary student work and regularly updating displays -Maintaining a positive classroom environment (both physically and emotionally) that maximizes student learning. -Recording and submitting attendance each period -Participating in or leading committees as needed -Monitoring of student work completion and grading -Problem solving and innovating best practices for students -Take part in weekly observation and coaching -Maintaining positive and productive relationships and collaborations with all team members -Positive and re-directive parent communication regarding both work and behavior -Build positive relationships with students and famili

About the Position
The teacher is also responsible for differentiating instruction to meet the needs of Special populations and English learners. You will be joining a dedicated staff who put the needs of the students first and where a sense of community exist between the school and the families we serve. Teachers will administer both formative and summative assessments, communicate with parents of students in their HOUSE and other team members about student progress, and plan corrective instruction based on data as well as vertically. A growth mindset is an essential trait that goes hand in hand with the teachers openness to receiving and implementing feedback. Being tech savvy and integrating it into your lessons will help us graduate 21st century scholars ready to compete locally, nationally and internationally for acceptance into 4 year colleges or the job market. Applicants must hold a California credential (out-of-state candidates will be assisted in CA credentialing process) and be highly qualified (HQ). Teaching experience within an urban school setting and with EL students will be beneficial.
