This position requires focused attention to detail while performing complex and technical duties in support of admissions application processing, validation of student records, merging and rejecting of applications, resolving initial residency issues, and tracking and reporting of fraudulent data. Merced College promotes student success through equitable access, continuous quality improvement, and institutional effectiveness, all with a focus on student achievement.General Description:Under general supervision of the Director of Admissions, Records and Follow-Up Services, performs complex and specialized clerical and computer related duties in support of the Admissions and Records department.
Examples of DutiesRepresentative Duties:
• Reviews all applications edit reports, determine merge or reject application uploads, make application corrections, determine potential fraud and perform follow-up actions• Determines initial residency status of applicants through application and document review, recording result in the students Colleague record. Meet with student, parents, to answers basic questions requiring knowledge of residency laws and regulations and guide students to resolution of issues• Oversee appointment schedule for application or residency validation meetings• Assist in organizing and providing Admissions application and residency support for outreach events and activities as needed• Receives calls and provide information on Admissions and Registration where judgment, knowledge and interpretation of policies, procedures and regulations are necessary• Assists in the research activities of the office and analysis of information to ensure continuous improvement of the program• Assists with Admissions and Records registration process as needed• Research and evaluation of student records• Provide follow-up services with students to ensure accuracy of student records• Interpret and understand Admissions and Records and District policies and apply them in a variety of procedural situations• Scan and store a variety of documentation as needed• Other related duties as assigned
Knowledge of:
• Research and data evaluation techniques related to student records• English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation• Collection and organization of records and information• Methods and techniques of effective communication and customer service• Rules, regulations and policies pertaining to CA Residency• Rules, regulations and policies of the Admissions and Records office and the district
Ability to:
• Maintain complex records• Learn, understand and use established data bases to accurately create and maintain data• Understand and carry out oral and written direction• Use independent judgment to determine proper outcomes• Perform basic math computations rapidly and accurately• Interpret, apply and communicate pertinent rules, regulations and policies of admissions and records• Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing• Work with minimal supervision• Interact successfully with the public and with college staff at all levels• Operate computers, a variety of software, and other office equipment• Promote and incorporate culturally affirming DEIA and anti-racist principles to nurture and create a respectful, inclusive, and equitable learning and work environment. In conducting their duties, staff members shall respect and acknowledge the diversity of students and colleagues.
Typical QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Associate's degree AND at least 1 year applicable experience• OR the equivalent education and experience.
Preferred:
• Two years' experience working in a university or college setting• Knowledge of CA residency rules and regulations
