Job Summary

JOB PURPOSE STATEMENT: The Elementary School Counselor works in collaboration with the Principal, Director II of Elementary Curriculum and Instruction, and Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Support Services, to provide counseling services to TK-5th grade students. The Elementary School Counselor helps all students apply academic achievement strategies, manage emotions and apply interpersonal skills, and plan for postsecondary options. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: Incumbents may perform any combination of the essential functions shown below. This position description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, knowledge, or abilities associated with this classification, but are intended to accurately reflect the principle job elements.

Requirements / Qualifications

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree, Graduate degree in school counseling, inclusive of 48 semester units in a Commission-approved professional preparation program specializing in school counseling, including a practicum with school-aged children. DOCUMENTS REQUIRED: Applicants are required to submit the following through Ed-Join prior to the position closing date/time: • Edjoin application • Letter of interest • Three current professional letters of reference dated within the last 12 months • Resume • Copy of California teaching credential(s) (or equivalent) - PPS (School Counseling) Credential • Copy of transcripts • Copy of test scores CREDENTIALS/CERTIFICATIONS: Pupil Personnel Services Credential in School Counseling required. Multiple Subject Teaching Credential desirable. NOTE: PLEASE UPLOAD THE DETAILED CTC DOCMENT TO SHOW AUTHORIZATION.

EXPERIENCE: Three (3) or more years working in a school setting; Professional counseling experience, preferably in a public-school setting working with children desirable.
