Jefferson Elementary School District

Physical Education Teacher: Middle School 

Supervision:  The Middle School Physical Education Teacher reports to the site principal at the school site to which they are assigned.

Scope of Work:  The Physical Education Teacher will work with at assigned schools to support the implementation of developmentally appropriate activities, effective instructional strategies and curriculum for physical education, based on California P.E. Standards.

Job description:

  • Support the implementation of developmentally appropriate activities and effective instructional strategies for physical education instruction
  • Provide support to staff to improve PE instruction for students by co-planning activities, modeling lessons, and through observation and feedback
  • Plan, collaborate and assist with activities related to PE professional development
  • Attend related professional development activities as required
  • Serve as a member on district committees related to PE
  • Plan, direct, supervise and evaluate the learning experiences of assigned pupils within the context of the curriculum
  • Help plan and coordinate physical activities/sports during lunch and/or afterschool
  • Support schools in inventory and purchase of equipment necessary for delivering a developmentally appropriate P. E. program.

Knowledge of:

  • Curriculum and instructional strategies which meet the needs of physical education students 6th -8th grade
  • California Physical Education Standards
  • Professional development, adult learning and coaching strategies

Skill and Ability to:

  • Facilitate groups in planning, problem solving and decision making
  • Plan and deliver effective staff development in PE
  • Communicate effectively with individuals and groups from diverse ethnic, racial, linguistic and social backgrounds
  • Work collaboratively with staff
  • Establish trust and rapport with staff

Qualifications:

  • Possession of valid California Teaching Credential – Multiple Subject or Single Subject/Physical Education
  • Minimum of 3 years successful teaching experience, including teaching physical education
  • Passion for and commitment to improving physical fitness of students
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated leadership experience at the grade, department, or district level
  • Possession of a valid California driver’s license and ability to travel among schools
  • Ability to easily lift item between 20-30 pounds

Salary and Work Year:

  • Placement on Certificated Teacher Salary Schedule with classroom teachers current work year
  • Responsibilities may include late afternoon and evening meetings
  • $1,100 Masters Stipend if applicable
