Job Summary
Job Summary
The School Nurse shall report directly to the designated program administrator and assume responsibility for program planning, coordination and implementation of student health services as prescribed by the Education Code and other applicable state/federal law. The School Nurse shall observe, consult with and assist other school personnel regarding the various health related needs of students, both those enrolled in regular and special education programs. The School Nurse shall also serve as a liaison between the school and community-based medical/health service providers and agency representatives.
Requirements / Qualifications
Possess and maintain a valid California credential authorizing the performance of school nursing services and current Board of Registered Nursing license. Demonstrate competence in communicating effectively with children and parents, staff members and representatives of other agencies. Possess specialized skills, experience and training in a broad range of school/public health issues, including the development and presentation of related curriculum. Demonstrates knowledge of and experience with various community resources associated with the health/medical field.

Comments and Other Information
*This position does require a CA School Nurse service credential, but HCOE will train and support the right candidate to work towards that requirement while they are employed by HCOE. The minimum requirements to start this process are a valid CA RN license and a BA/BS degree. The successful candidate must apply for a Preliminary School Nurse service credential upon hire and within 5 years of hire must have attended a Commission-approved school nurse program in order to be recommended for a clear School Nurse service credential. Applicants who currently possess and maintain a valid CA credential authorizing the performance of school nursing services and current Board of Registered Nursing license are ideal.
