RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the Equity Coordinator, the Family Engagement Specialist will work to establish relationships that empower, guide, and support historically underrepresented (HUR) parents of students in the PAUSD to become strong advocates for their children’s education and social and emotional well-being. Specific duties include being able to: • Deliver outreach, resources and supportive services to HUR families and Voluntary Transfer Program students attending Palo Alto schools • Develop relationships with families that facilitate and support increased parent engagement and involvement in the school community and the advocacy of their children’s academic and socio-emotional learning • Establish and maintain regular communication with parents to inform them of school, district, and community events and opportunities in their preferred language • Provide support necessary to guide parents in navigating PAUSD systems in support of their child’s academic, social and emotional needs • Coordinate, promote participation, and attend school-wide events with families to promote inclusion in the school community • Coordinate, promote, and facilitate regular attendance at parent meetings and events around topics of interest to parents • Assist parents in developing a greater understanding of educational practices, policies, and procedures at PAUSD schools • Provide oral interpretation and translation during conferences and meetings • Provide translation of school-specific communications • Keep records of HUR parent attendance at school and district events • Develop and maintain ongoing contact with community organizations that provide academic tutoring and enrichment and/or extracurricular activities • Take part in opportunities for professional development at the local, regional, and/or state level • Attend and participate in school site staff meetings • Identify and share additional school needs/services for supporting HUR stu
