Job Summary

The Deputy Superintendent of Education Services (“Deputy”) is responsible to and works under the direction of the County Superintendent. The Deputy serves in the absence of the County Superintendent and is vested with the authority to resolve issues related to the day-to-day operations of the Mendocino County Office of Education (“MCOE”). Under the supervision of the County Superintendent , the Deputy plans, organizes, controls and directs the overall operations and activities of the Educational Services Division departments, including Continuous Improvement, Alternative Education, Special Education, Special Education Local Plan Area (“SELPA”), Early Learning and Care (“ELC”), and evaluates learning and leadership resources such as curriculum, instruction, assessment, accountability, evaluation, district and school improvement, administrator credentialing, Local Control and Accountability Plans (“LCAP”), Career Technical Education (“CTE”), and professional development for schools in Mendocino County and MCOE. The Deputy assists the Superintendent with management and administrative functions, including those relating to strategic planning; ensuring compliance with State, federal and local legal requirements and guidelines. The Deputy Superintendent of Educational Services acts for, represents, and exercises the authority of the County Superintendent of Schools (“Superintendent”) as assigned.

Requirements / Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS • Possess a valid California Administrative Services Credential; • Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in the administration at a school site and/or County Office level; • Possess, or obtain upon employment, a valid California Driver License; • Provide proof of automobile insurability; • Meet the physical requirements necessary to perform assigned duties safely and effectively, including lifting twenty-five (25) pounds on an occasional basis and in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds with assistance. • Preferred: A Master’s degree from a recognized college or university, with courses in public administration, instruction or related field. Employee will be a member of the State Teachers’ Retirement System (STRS) and may elect to be a member of the Mendocino County Federation of School Employees Union.
