The Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) serves some of Orange County’s most vulnerable student populations and provides support and mandated fiscal oversight to 28 school districts serving more than 600 schools and approximately 475,000 students. In addition to providing direct instruction to students through its own alternative and special education programs, OCDE administers an array of programs and services that are critical to the operations of local school districts and community colleges, facilitating professional development, legal guidance, payroll, career and technical education support, high-speed internet access, Local Control and Accountability Plan assistance and approval, resources for families, and student enrichment. ACCESS is a public, WASC accredited educational program offering a variety of unique school options serving students throughout Orange County. ACCESS offers students Community Day School and Independent Study/Contract Programs. Community Day School provides a year-round program for students in grades 7th - 12th. Students attend school daily in a classroom setting where teachers facilitate learning through small group instruction. Independent Study/Contract Learning provides a year-round program for students in grades 9th - 12th. Students meet one-on-one with their teacher for a minimum of 60 minutes per week and are required to complete 20 hours of homework weekly. We are looking for a dynamic and service-oriented Paraeducator to provide educational support for at-risk youth populations through tutoring in assigned subject matter areas to reinforce class lessons, improve skill levels, and assist students in completing class and homework assignments. Paraeducators assist teachers in maintaining student academic and attendance records and assisting parents with questions regarding their child's attendance. The Paraeducator provides support to the school site by checking-in students and guests as they arrive at the site and having them sign-in, assisting visitors and answering questions, and clerical duties such as answering phone calls, filing, and organizing work areas. Positions can be located at various sites and may be transferred based on need throughout Orange County. The current vacancy needed is 6 hours per day/30 hours per week, Monday through Friday. This recruitment will establish an eligibility list for future Paraeducator openings.
Requirements / Qualifications
Education, Experience, and Training Guidelines: Any combination of education, training, and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way of obtaining the knowledge and abilities would be: • One year of experience working with children in an organized setting and one of the following, • Completion of at least two years of study at a college or university; OR, • An Associate of Arts degree; OR, • Satisfactory completion of an approved Paraeducator test; OR Demonstration of a rigorous standard of quality through a state or local assessment including knowledge of and the ability to assist in instruction in reading, writing, and mathematics. Documents: The following documents are required for this position for proof of 60-semester units or the completion of an AA Degree Please provide a copy of transcripts or a copy of your graduation certificate
