Teacher on Special Assignment - Vietnamese Language Courses

1.         BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

Under the direction of the Director of Instructional Services, the Teacher on Special Assignment’s primary responsibility is to work with the World Languages Subject Area Coordinator (SAC) to ensure all Vietnamese Language courses are aligned with the new World Languages Framework and World Language Standards.  

2.         MAJOR DUTIES

2.1 Collaborate with World Languages Subject Area Coordinator (SAC) to update course descriptions, curriculum maps, lesson plans and assessments aligned to the World Languages Framework and Standards.

2.1.1    Organize and/or (co)facilitate teacher meetings related to the updating of the Vietnamese language program.

2.1.2    Serve as a Vietnamese language and culture resource to the World Languages SAC.

    2.1.3    Provide guidance to teachers of Vietnamese Language courses in modifying lessons, content, and materials for heritage and non-heritage students.

    2.1.4    Lead the Vietnamese language teachers in the creation of instructional materials aligned to the World Languages Framework and Standards.

    2.1.5    Participate in the various World Languages committees working on priority standards and summative assessments to become familiar with the processes used in the World Languages Dept.

 

2.2 Model and coach teachers on research-based instructional strategies to help students enrolled in Vietnamese Language courses develop communicative, cultural and intercultural proficiency.

2.2.1 Enhance the ability of teachers to understand and implement curricula, assessment practices and measures, and instructional strategies aligned to the World Languages Framework and Standards.

2.2.2 Assist teachers of Vietnamese language courses in developing lesson plans using tenets of Universal Design for Learning and Culturally Responsive Teaching.

2.2.3 Support teachers of Vietnamese language courses with finding intervention measures for struggling students.

2.2.4 Collaborate with Vietnamese Language teachers to design units of study aligned to the World Languages Standards

 

3.         OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

3.1 Maintain Professional Competence.

3.2 Attend various staff meetings, including World Languages Department Chair meetings.

3.3 Participate in professional development through the World Language Project, ACTFL and other professional organizations

3.4 Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Instructional Services

 

4.         SUPERVISION EXERCISED OR RECEIVED

4.1 The Teacher on Special Assignment -Vietnamese Language Courses is directly responsible to the Director of Instructional Services
 

 5. EVALUATION:

5.1 Annually by the Director of Instructional Services

 

6. COMPENSATION:

6.1 Appropriate placement on the salary schedule.

 

7. WORK YEAR:

7.1 Teacher work year
