CANYON SCHOOL DISTRICT Our Mission The mission of Canyon School is to foster a lifelong love of learning, integrating individual academic growth and achievement with artistic expression. We draw strength from our extended community, rich in historic tradition, our unique natural setting, and our small size. The school provides a sanctuary for developing the talents, strengths, and confidence of each individual so that our students become resourceful adults who think and act creatively and critically in the world community. Under the direction of the CESD Board, the Superintendent will provide leadership in the following areas: Education -The Canyon School curriculum emphasizes project based, inquiry learning, integration of visual and performing arts, and environmental education. Staff - Leadership should be by example and in a collaborative mode, with mutual respect and clear and positive communication. Finance - Along with the CBO, the Superintendent must be knowledgeable and conversant in all areas of the budget, maintaining solvency and guiding the CESD Board and the Education Foundation. Facility - The Canyon School building is the home of our school and district office, and serves as the de facto community center for the town of Canyon. The grounds, a redwood grove on the banks of the Upper San Leandro Creek, are an ideal place for outdoor learning. Communications - The Superintendent is the communications officer and is responsible for keeping the school community, residential community, CESD Board, and all relevant outside agencies informed on a timely basis.
