Applications are now being accepted for the position of EOPS Student Services Technician at San Diego Mesa College. The EOPS Student Services Technician is responsible for providing support services to current and prospective students in EOPS and Special Programs. This is a 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday, 12-month contract. Hours are 8 am - 6 pm from Monday - Thursday and 8am-3pm on Fridays. Selected candidate must be willing to adjust work days/hours based on the department's needs. This position will be housed in the EOPS and Special Programs Department and is under the direction of the Director of EOPS and Special Programs. Mesa College is located in Clairemont Mesa in San Diego and is one of three colleges in the San Diego Community College District.
Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) provides services over, above, and beyond what the college provides. EOPS provides a student-centered environment by promoting access, retention, and completion of educational goals. The program offers comprehensive academic and support counseling, financial aid and other services aimed at keeping students from dropping out and helping them reach their educational and career goals.
Major Responsibilities:
Work to support Mesa's diverse student population by providing the following services:
• Facilitate the processing of applications to assess students' eligibility into EOPS and Special Programs.
• Maintains current knowledge of related policies, practices and guidelines through training and communication with appropriate agencies.
• Monitors and maintains complex student files to ensure compliance with college, district, and state policies and guidelines.
• Utilizes computer skills to compile data and prepare reports, develop electronic communications such newsletters, websites, presentations, surveys, spreadsheets, evaluations and marketing materials to facilitate student recruitment and retention.
• Plan activities designed to assist students to successfully pursue their educational goals; planning, organizing and implementation of program practices, procedures, and activities.
• Plan, and organize program services, projects, and special events.
• Assist with budget monitoring and projection.
• Train and provide work direction to staff and student workers.
• Work effectively and collaboratively with students, staff, faculty, administrators, outside agencies, and community partners.
• Conduct program orientations and informational sessions regarding program services, and personal development.
• Participate in on-site and off-site meetings, training's and conferences representing program(s).
• Assist students in finding appropriate college and community resources.
• Other duties as assigned.

• One-year experience in a student services setting directly working with students.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience working underserved student populations.
• Interpreting and applying policies and regulations within a higher education setting.
• Demonstrated knowledge, ability, and experience preparing and presenting reports.
• Plan, prioritize, coordinate, and organize work and events.
• Experience with budget monitoring and projection.
• Establish and maintain collegial working relationships with students, faculty, staff, administration, community agencies and educational institutions.
• Interact and communicate effectively with individuals and small and/or large groups.
• Knowledge and/or skill in the use of computer technology, applies emerging technologies, and ability to utilize technology in promoting and enhancing services to students.
• Knowledge, training, and experience that would indicate sensitivity, understanding, and ability to work with special populations, as well as the diverse academic, socio-economic, disability, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Pay Information:
Range 23 ($4,104.63- $6,551.93) per month based on the current Classified salary schedule. New employees will begin on Step A ($4,104.63), Step B ($4,309.87) with 18 months of verified, paid, full-time equivalent related job experience or up to Step C ($4,525.36) with 36 months of verified, paid, full-time equivalent related job experience. For purposes of salary placement, 7.5 semester units (or equivalent quarter units) of directly related coursework from a regularly accredited institution will be equivalent to one (1) year of job experience. Promoted or transferred employees will be placed as specified in the CBA. This position is FLSA Non-exempt (may accrue overtime). Excellent Benefits are provided to all Contract employees with assignments greater than, or equal to, 50% (0.50 FTE) and all eligible dependents. A temporary probationary period will apply to the employee entering this assignment.
