Job Summary
The Turnaround Arts- Art Integration teacher/specialist will play an integral role in the implementation of the Turnaround Arts initiative. The teacher/specialist will provide a differentiated arts program based on the National Core Arts Standards for regular and special education students. The teacher/specialist will work to provide an engaging curriculum using different art mediums and techniques with a focus on visual art. The teacher/specialist will work collaboratively with school staff in order to integrate core curricular areas into the arts experience and will provide model visual art lessons within each classroom. In addition, the teacher /specialist will work with various community arts partners in order to provide additional high-quality arts programming for students. The teacher/specialist will be a member of the school’s arts leadership team and will work with the site Instructional Leadership Team to create and implement the strategic plan. Background: Echo Valley Elementary School has recently been selected as a Kennedy Center- Turnaround Arts: California partnership school beginning in the 2023-2024 school year. The Turnaround Arts Initiative is part of a national public-private partnership that leverages the arts to help turn around the nation’s lowest performing schools. Turnaround Arts: California is one of twelve localities from across the nation selected by the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Education, the National Endowment for the Arts, and several private foundations. Requirements / Qualifications
Qualified candidates will have demonstrated extensive classroom experience in teaching visual art and arts integration with core content, with a preference in working at a Turnaround Arts school in California. Candidates should have a deep understanding and demonstrated performance of integrating art forms into the core context in all grade levels at the elementary level from TK-6. Desired experience and training in arts integration and demonstrated performance on a school leadership team, specifically focused on the Turnaround Arts approach for school improvement efforts. Must have appropriate credentials and extensive experience in teaching and supporting at a public elementary school focused on the arts. This position provided direct instruction in art within classrooms weekly as well as coaching and support to classroom teachers.
Applicants must have a minimum of four years related experience, including but not limited to: classroom teaching, instructional coaching, instructional mentorship/BTSA provider, site or district level administration, etc. Applicants must include all documents to be considered for the hiring process. Three letters of recommendation must be included with the application. All letter should be current (dates within the last year) and at least one should be included from a direct supervisor.
