Requirements / Qualifications

Specific Duties: • Teach students all standard subjects, such as math, science, social studies, life skills etc., and also Chinese Mandarin. • Grade papers and prepare lesson plans. • Teach the course of study prescribed by the Pasadena Unified School District's approved curriculum. • Provide individual and group instruction. • Provide appropriate instruction and activities for students. • Encourage the development of good study habits. • Develop and use instructional materials suitable for verbal and/or instruction of students. • Develop lesson plans, prepare required materials/homework and plan lesson logistics; • Pace and coordinate lessons. • Develop and modify lesson plans regularly based on students' performance and abilities deciding on areas that need re-teaching or accelerating. • Conduct baseline assessment at beginning of school year, using data from previous years to understand incoming class needs, strengths, etc. and inform lesson planning. • Prepare report cards three times per year. • Establish and maintain standards of classroom management required to achieve effective participation in all activities. • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning environment. • Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day as required. • Responsible for student supervision at all times while instructing. • Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays such as bulletin boards, interest centers etc. • Provide visible rewards and recognition displays to encourage learning. • Develop display boards to share information with students and families on an ongoing basis. • Enter attendance data daily into District adopted tracking system. • Write and enter required progress reports and formal report cards three times per year and additional assessment reports as required.

• Maintain notes for each student with grades, assessment data, progress notes, conversations with parents, etc. • Communicate with families via email, memos, notes, etc. with regard to student progress, ideas and provide support for learning. Hold parent conferences to discuss the individual student's progress. Additional Duties: • Maintain a nurturing and growth-minded climate conducive to learning all standard subjects such as math, science, social studies, life skills, etc. and also Chinese Mandarin. • Create and implement an effective, high-quality, rigorous program that builds bi-literacy skills and multi-cultural appreciation via a variety of instructional techniques. • Create a classroom learning environment of respect, exploration and perseverance. • Provide for the individual learning needs of all students. • Establish a culture for learning that is positive, inclusive and challenging. • Develop Chinese immersion curriculum using research-based best practices which also meets CA state standards. • Work well with a team of Chinese and English-speaking members on planning, professional development, curriculum design, and teaching responsibilities. • Communicate with families regarding student progress, ideas and support for learning. • Assess and monitor each student's academic and language proficiency growth using multiple measures, including informal and formal assessments. • Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school of assignment and/or on a District level. • Support the dual immersion program with translation of materials and brochures from English into Mandarin for instruction in those subject areas in which Mandarin language resources are limited, such as Math, Social Science, Science, and English Language Arts. • Perform related duties as assigned.
